Matsumoto is a city surrounded by mountains in the center of Japan’s main island.
Many tourists, both Japanese and foreigners, visit the city due to its convenient location—around 2 and a half to 3 hours from both Tokyo and Nagoya.

Matsumoto castle is the most popular spot you must see. At the entrance of the park, English-speaking guides are available for tourists at no cost.
The city museum is being replaced and will open in fall 2023.
There are two hot springs with ancient origins on the outskirts. Asama and Utsukushigahara hot springs were documented in an archive written 1300 years ago. During the Edo period, the lords of Matsumoto Castle visited these places to take baths.
When the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival is held in late August, the city comes alive with even more excitement as classical music fans from all around gather to enjoy a variety of opera and concert performances by top artists.
