It won't be iv as it'll be inauspicious number in Japan.
For next model I woud like … tilting screen … dust issue solved …better battery … popup viewfinder
I'm not too annoyed with the small battery but the focus needs serious improvment. Camera keeps focusing on the wrong spots, miss faces etc and I had to correct the focus points most of the time.
If they can't bring the flash back in the smaller body somehow, I think they could incorporate it into the ring like their WG series. Would be dope. Pop up viewfinder or optional EVF would be great too.
A bit better autofocus would be nice, and maybe and extra dial or button. Other than that is perfectly fine
For me the value of using a GR3 is in its size (#1), exceptional glass and sensor at that size. If a GR4 became any larger I’d just keep my GR3. So if Ricoh could upgrade the sensor to say 50mp, address the dust issue, all without increasing its footprint I’d be happy. My GR3x compliments my iPhone 14 Pro Max and vs versa as a stealthy combo for street and travel. Otherwise I’ll just take one of my Sony cameras. Now a GR3/GR4 monochrome… yes.
Better autofocus, dust issue solved, f2 o f2.2 aperture, EVF optional and 4k 30p = I´d sell the rest of my equipment
Couple things they could fix.
1) Of course weather sealing. At least make it dust resistant.
2) Internal battery with 50W or 100W quick charge. Like how some phones can charge from 0-80% in 10 mins.
3) Tilt screen. If possible, a 3 way tilt like Fuji X-T3 or X-T5, only if it doesn't compromise the current size.
1080p/30 can be pretty good but Ricoh don't implement it properly. The move from the II to the III gave it a smaller body. That lost the flash and the potential to use a bigger battery. Batteries have got more efficient so so they don't have to be much bigger to give a useful increase in capacity. Bring back the II body size and make use of the extra internal volume for flash or viewfinder. I don't think you will get the flip screen although it would be nice. I think they could manage F2 for at least the 40mm.
I use a Lumix LX7. No it isn't apsc but it has good basic video and I have the electronic multi angle viewfinder, but that doesn't get much use!
Note: Ricoh have just released a new Firmware version for both models.
So far I only used the GR3. I also like the 3x to buy. But maybe waiting for GR4? Greetings from the Netherlands.
Regarding seeing framelines in the viewfinder, Ricoh should copy Fuji X100V. When you crop in camera in the X100V, it can still give you the full raw file plus jpg. Also, Fuji has proven with X100V you can have tilty screen without increasing depth of camera much.
With evf and tiltable display it wouldn't be anymore a GRx
A tilt LCD screen and a faster auto-focus. Then weather sealed body and longer battery life would be perfect !
I don’t have one yet because I want to wait for a GR4, but I worry that I’ll be waiting indefinitely for something that won’t meet my expectations 😅
I would love the GR4 to have flash, weather sealing, and better battery. Viewfinder would be nice to have for bright sunny days, but not a must-have for me.
I know it’s not possible, but I would have paid $100 extra bucks for better autofocus through a firmware update. Pretty happy with everything else.
Is this based on a new rumour, or are you just hoping?
I have the GR3 that is now so battered and dusty it's barely usable, but I don't want to get a new one because of the age and an update being so overdue.
All I want is a bit more durability — dust and weather sealing would be great!
To be honest, make the stupid lens non-retractable. The way the Fujifilm x70 was. Just got dust on my Ricoh GR sensor and until Ricoh has fixed that problem I will not be buying any more Ricohs.
Thanks for your videos. Great work. +1 for bigger aperture here F/2 would be great.
A titre personnel, l'écran orientable ne m'intéresse pas du tout. C'est fragile et ça risque d'alourdir l'appareil sans apporter une véritable valeur.
Those changes might actually make me buy a Ricoh.
Do we need the shotgun strap with bullet holder for the gr? So we can hold some battery 😂
After focus (ability to pick aperture and focus point after the picture is taken) that way you can just focus on the moment and composition; built in flash like Contax t2 (not pop up ) and ability to add different in camera grain type and strength
Higher resolution would allow cropping like the Leica q3. Showing cropping lines in live view would also be a benefit. An f 2.0 lens. All for $1,200 – $1,300.
I would like to make two comments. The first, is that I find the communications between Japanese companies and their customers to be very poor. It is the same with all products not just cameras. My simple question, is why don't manufacturers give their customers what they want? For example, long term complains that never get fixed through multiple generations. My second comment, is that not only should you list those things you want updated but very very carefully, you need to inform these companies of what to keep. For example, they company give you a bigger battery but now they have produced a larger product which is less desirable that the previous size with the smaller battery.
I would just like better battery life, and an electronic viewfinder
I'd love an evf and some weather/dust resistance.
Did you have the chance to test the Ricoh GR III X? I currently own a Fuji X-E4 with the 27mm F2.8 and 35mm F2, I can't decide which version of the Ricoh to choose…
Hi Adrien, very interesting video and very clear to what you want for next Ricoh GR…
I don't own a Ricoh GR III, I strongly think about getting one for the last (more than a) few months… It is a pretty expensive buy for me and I do search the camera a lot…
After seeing many videos, reading many things in Youtube and different forums (and holding it in my hands for just few minutes) my humble opinion is that (especially after watching this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW2CPLDK1ls&t=3s
Interview of RICOH GR Engineers [English subtitles available] )
Ricoh GR III is like a niche sports car, that has not all the latest and greatest but it has a certain philosophy and more or less sticks to it…
As far as I can understand, to what they wanted to achieve with the camera is much more hits than misses…
About faster autofocus…
Yes they should improve on that, especially in low light as so many complain on this… but they do have the snap focus, of course that is not an excuse…
About battery life…
Yes it is worse than the previous model! But is it that much of a problem, get more batteries and as some mention, if you know well your camera you don't need to have it always "on", after all it switches on less than a second (around 0,7)… And again, it would be great if they could have a more lasting battery…
About the tilty screen…
It would be great if they could add that and I really believe that they will try to have one, since many many people have it high on their list for what they want for the next model… and especially since we see so good tilted screens the last few years… Mine (I own a Fuji Xt-2) is very good, personally I am very please with it. I also have worked with some Sonys who also have pretty thin and good tilted screens, so it probably is possible even if they need to add a little on the thickness of the camera… but honestly have you not seen ever pros and people who really know their cameras being able to shoot more or less to what they wanted in the frame even from above or below? It would be great but more than a tilted screen I think it is very important to have a very responsive touch screen (which as many say they do have)…
About faster shutter…
Yes, that makes a lot of sense, especially for a camera that is considered "king of street photography cameras" and a snap photography camera… I don't think I have seen many ask for this…
About Framelines…
Yes, that makes no sense why it is not already on the current model… and when you crop, why not the camera keep all the data from your photo and give you the opportunity to have the "whole" sensor version of your photo if you want it afterwards… I honestly have no idea how difficult would that be on the "software side"…
About the less important for you (as you mention in your video)…
On EVF…
Yes it would be great but in such a small camera, it would probably be unusable… not sure about it… And for some reason I believe, that if the screen is very good, most probably most of the times, especially after using and learning the camera pretty well it shouldn't be such a problem to know how to shoot what you want… But there doesnt seem to be a good excuse of not giving an EVF as an accessory, letting people choose if they want to add one in the hotshoe of the camera.
On video…
I think that video should not leave completely from the camera… There is no need for great video or 4K or what other "bells and whistles"… just something decent in time of need would be much appreciated by most (I believe)… And if so many praise the colors and profiles of Ricoh GR, why not be able to have some video with these?
On weather sealing and dust problem…
To me, weather sealing is not such of a problem, as you mention so logically you can get an ambrella and use your camera with the other hand, not that difficult…
Now about the dust, as I mentioned elsewhere
<<<<This for me (and I repeat, if really is an issue) defies the purpose of this camera because, you can easily see by its sleek design and slim "bare" form factor, that this camera is really being made to be on a pocket so that someone can take it out in an instant shoot with it and put it back again. If this can not be done, just out of fear of dust on the camera, doesn't that defy the very purpose this camera was built? And yes, I do understand, that you can have a cap, a case or whatever else to protect it, but isn't in the "soul" of this camera to be used in a pocket taken out shoot with it and be able to put it again in the pocket in a matter of seconds if need be? And a possilbe solution for me, would not be nessecarily "weather sealing" just an "easy way to clean the sensor" would be more than great… >>>
About the availability of the two versions, to be available simultaneously at launch of the new camera…
That would be great… but on "manufacturing side of things" (let alone bussiness plan) I don't see it happening, but who knows… The good thing is that the success of the X version of the camera makes it almost certain that there will be an X version of the new model also.
About higher resolution and F2…
Higher resolution would be so welcome because it would allow to crop so much easier…
And F2… a gift welcomed, but probably not that easy… Who knows?
I hope that someone at Ricoh might read this!
Thank you again Adrien for this video…
Take care everyone and enjoy shooting… 😎
I only wish for 2 main things:
1. tilt screen for the same reason you listed, no EF means the screen should be able to be manipulated.
2. pop-up flash so I don't have to use external flash
Optional but will be good to have:
1. better autofocus, their autofocus is crap though this can be remedied to some degree with snapfocus
2. better weather sealing or at least better resistance to dust, especially for a camera touted for the ability to put in your pocket.
3. longer battery or fast charge ability.
4. zoom function, sound weird but the lens is already retractile so I wouldn't mind if they could do a 28mm and 40mm zoom so I don't have to get 2 cameras lol.
Hi, I wanted to ask you if you've ever tried the Sony RX 100 and I have it and it's incredible!! It has everything you could want from a small compact but really powerful!
A tilt screen is a must imo to give better composition options for fast shooting. Technically i can do this via image sync but it's slow and cumbersome. A hotshoe EVF would be nice
Framelines could be a software update on the GRiii.
If they could do a front adapter that makes it weather sealed similar to x100v would be nice to shoot in rain I don't care about the dust issue I like shooting in harsh weather, where I live rain often means windy too. So an umbrella isn't the solutions here.
There are 40mp APS-C sensors in fuji's so it can be done without being larger.
F2 would be hard purely the physics and maths mean it would be a bigger lens.
I would like a 2 more function buttons one in the top dial and one under the video/wireless button.
Wireless charging so I can just put the camera down at home it's charging would be cool.
