1st stop
FORT LOUDOUN
STATE HISTORIC PARK

Atom Age Gatehouse
https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/66447
For years the “secret city” of Oak Ridge — the installation which helped build the Hiroshima A-bomb — was encircled by 90 square miles of barbed wire. When it finally opened to the world in 1949, three big Cold War gatehouses were built between the town and the surrounding, still-secret uranium plants.

2nd stop
Airplane Filling Station
https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11596
The early-20th-century excesses of giddy gas station design are mostly gone forever, with a handful of survivors such as the Seashell and Teapot now considered roadside icons.
Less well known, but even more elaborate, is the Airplane Filling Station. You probably haven’t heard of it because until fairly recently it was a wreck.

  1. Another cool trip underway. It's amazing how many things are along America's roads that so many people just drive by, thanks for sharing.

  2. Hello Doyle, You are always going to such fun places. We haven't been on one since going to Michael's to return the bike. 💕NonnaGrace

  3. Thanks for the ride along and great video thanks for sharing I will be in Tennessee next week for the smoky mountain HOG rally

  4. As always you have the coolest stops on your trips. I would love to visit a bunch of roadside attractions…

  5. Awesome! I’m still wanting to go to that gas station it’s so cool. You were really close to the greenback castle when at the fort. There’s a cool sequoia birthplace museum there too

  6. Man, I pass all kinds of cool stuff here all the time. I guess we just take stuff for granted when we see it so often. I get to riding and don't want to stop and video things. Hahaha. I should force myself to stop at some of the back roads attractions I see all the time. I haven't seen the airplane gas station before though, pretty cool.

  7. That airplane gas station was my favorite so far! Was the building made out of sheet metal, or just made to look that way. Either way, that's a cool roadside stop!

  8. That gas station had some neat pumps. You don't usually see those refurbished, in good shape. Cool place, even when they are not open its still fun to stop and look. Take care!

  9. I've been in that area but never knew the roadside attractions were there. I have been to that HD dealership. Great video!
