  1. WOW. That's the most silkworms I've ever seen in one place! This must be Phuket, yeah? I know, I could look in the descrip. The palm grub you ate was great. I've never seen them at a market. I did find some in a dead palm tree and will do the video here as soon as I can find 5 hours to edit… but yeah, they're about the most disgusting thing I can think of here to eat. Except tarantulas. Have you had the pleasure of those babies yet Darren?

  2. Eating bugs is such an odd thing.
Some cultures regularly eat all sorts of insects.

Just like we would eat some potato chips in the afternoon…or buy a hotdog from a food truck; other people would instead grab a bag of chocolate covered ants…
Or while out with the family; they’ll buy some MAGGOTS, grubs, crickets, wasp larva, other kinds of larva, beetles, grasshoppers, cicadas….etc. (that are still alive…or cooked/fried/dipped in all sorts of ways. Lol as we clearly see in this video)

(Random but…others even eat dogs & cats)

What one culture sees as disgusting, uncivilized or inhumane…another sees as completely normal.

  3. Dude, you make this stuff look good. I’m surprised. A right bit of charisma and interest can really pull people into this video. Thanks

  4. If they would sell these in Europe, would like to try you never know, we eat shrimps too..and they are like cockroach of the sea.

  5. I feel sorry for people that are afraid to try unusual food. They will go through life missing some great flavors, sure you will find somethings you don’t like but overall you will be richer for adventuresome eating

  6. I love mealworms. I’d definitely get a bag of those first. The silkworms looked pretty good too

  7. As i am watching this i am thinking to myself, why am i enjoying binge watching someone eating a bag of bugs that i will likely not eat?

  8. Darren, Good evening. Read your notes on being a public school teacher. Such a bummer I missed that opportunity. Mark Wines, Sonny Side, The Food Ranger all started out as school teachers. They went for the job and stayed for the food. What an opportunity. Your videos are especially interesting because you are acting as a family. That's great. I have 7 kids, 18 grand kids and one great grand son. Cool but its not traveling . So many interesting foods you encounter. Those night markets are so fantastic I could wander around them forever. By the time I get an assortment of bugs from Amazon they are freeze dried tasteless crap. Jack fruit, Durian and some others are wet packed and do have some taste. BUT I would love to try a Giant Cricket, Red Grasshoppers, Coconut grubs, Silk worms pupa. It all looks so different and likely delicious. My daughter sent me a brownie mix made with 50% powdered crickets. I made them up and they were delicious. I served my wife Jan a big brownie and after she ate it I gave he r the box the mix came in to read. In a few moments she realized what was in the mix and she did not talk to me for a week. LOL My daughter and I busted up over it.
Make it a great day Darren!
    CB Over and out

  9. Kind of KFB "Klaus schwab Fried Bugs". and This is what World Economic Forum want from people to eat.

  10. You could blend them all up add eggs, rices, beans, grains, seasoning. Aslo thought predigest the bugs woth tarantula venom amd then use renon and reconstitute the liquid protein after staining, its like bug tofu cheese. Then get food more palatable. Best bugs; Honey ant, butter grub, mana bug, locust, ant larva, honey bee larva, silk worm, and june bug all added with tarantula. Aslo dung Beatle if only eat elephant scat and bat guano only. Anyone have ideas?

  11. The way they are prepared there actually makes most of them look delicious. Most of the world has ate insects since forever, as it is such an easy, clean and nutritious food source. As much as I love my meat, when you think about how it is produced with horrific slaughter houses and the resources and waste involved, suddenly eating insects like a huge portion of the world does already seems not only sensible, but infinitely more humane and efficient. I would love to try them prepared like this, with yummy Thai seasoning.

  12. if you can eat shrimp then you csn probably eat insects

  13. Fun fact: Patunga grasshopper is an alien invader in Thai ecosystem, they're not native. ~37 years ago the immense plague of locusts swarmed in from Cambodia and started annihilating Thai crops. A lot of measurements were brought up against and most of them failed until some one got a bright idea of catching and selling the locusts themselves as food for even more benefit than the crop itself. Fried bugs were invented for food culture that time, people were happy with new dish and the crop issues were gone, it was a win-win.
