In this vlog, we’re in Phnom Penh. Let’s check out some cool things to do on the weekend in this up and coming city.
We visit:
1) Pizza 4P’s
We visit Pizza 4P’s, a restaurant with a great selection of pizza’s that would rival any in Italy. What’s surprising is the restaurant is Japanese. What’s super impressive is their zero waste incentive. Pizza 4P’s CEO hails from Tokyo. The seeds for this popular pizzeria were sown 12 years ago in the backyard of his home in Japan. Since then, his love for sharing pizza and happiness led him to Vietnam where he successfully set up over 20 restaurants and food trucks.
The Phnom Penh branch is the first flagship store outside of Vietnam and is making a positive impact in the city through an eco-friendly sustainability model. The reduce, re-use and recycle mindset really shines through. From Up-cycled cooking cooking tools to recycled decor, and food waste to customer leftovers, which all serve the entire circular economy.
Part of the brands vision is to develop original and creative pizzas based on homemade cheese delivered from farms in Dalat, Vietnam.
2) Sisowath Riverside Park and Quay
The riverside park is where you find residents and tourists alike relaxing and enjoying an evening stroll. This is also where you can catch a boat for a sunset cruise and views of Phnom Penh city. The sunset boat ride overlooking the Tonle Sap, Bassac and Mekong Rivers is actually quite a popular pass-time in the capital.
3) Wat Ounalom Monastery
For Visa Bochea Day, we visit Wat Ounalom Monastery, one of the oldest temples from the 13th century and is one of the five oldest Monasteries in Phnom Penh. Here, we chat to a Buddhist Monk about Buddha’s teachings and the key to happiness.
4) Oh San Ramen Noodles & Beyond
If you want excellent Ramen noodles in Phnom Penh, this is your place. Their version of this soulful pork-love fest in a bowl will keep you coming back. The decor is also uncompormisingly authentic. We asked the manager for their popular dishes and decided to go with the Oh San salad bowl, signature Ramen noodles, seared beef and deep fried pork cutlets. Compliments to the chef. We couldn’t choose a favourite.
5) Phnom Penh Night Market
A nice way to spend a Sunday evening is to visit Phnom Penh’s only formal night market. Try some local Cambodian street food, listen to live Cambodian music and browse for clothing, jewellery and other knick knacks. Since Cambodia produces a lot of tropical fruit, you should try one of the exotic Durian, Coconut or Dragon Fruit smoothies.
