  1. Enjoyable video – especially love your segments on food and of course PONCHA 🎉best food comes from Madeira 🥰🥰🥰

  2. I really appreciate this video in particular because I am interested in utilizing the local buses to get around Madeira however, I hope to book a tour with you and I’m shooting to be there in May, 2022. Hugo for President 😉

  3. Are there any website that presents real current temperatures on Madeira?
Especially from Funchal. Other places also can be.
Real temperature from sensors, not forecast.

  4. Jeff, I love love Madeira! Want to go back. Just wondering about Covid test for my return to the US. Where can I get tested on the Island and approximately how much? Thank you in advance.

  5. Ah, Machico… the village that became a city. My parents are from there, rua da torre.
Thanks for the awesome vlog Jeff. Take care bud

  6. Jeff, I look forward to your videos. Insightful and fun to watch. I feel like I am really along for the ride. Much success to you. 2 years ago I was introduced to what I believe is the best Poncha in Madeira. Next time I go I will try your recent recommendation Barraca de Avo to try hers. Me, I am just a Madeirense da America.

The place is called Taberna Real Da Poncha (The Royal Poncha Tavern) in Serra De Agua. I was introduced to this place that I feel you and your crew should go check out. Now when you go there know that you are being transported back in time not in architecture but in meeting the owner who I consider to be more than an artisan, he is a true artist. My friend had given me the heads up on the do’s and don’t’s… Yes you will appreciate it – the owner is a master of his craft. Showing him that respect will also yield a more positive experience.

Each batch is made specially for you, nothing is bottled or left over from previous customer. If you order one for yourself it won’t matter – he mixes up enough for 4, if you don’t drink the 4 he throws it out. All made fresh.

When ordering – walk up – if he is mixing an order do not interrupt him. He in my opinion is in a Zen warrior trance only focused on mixing your Poncha no one else’s. Are you familiar with the Seinfeld Show – there was a character called the “Soup Natzi” who made specialty soups. It is similar but this gentlemen making the Poncha is much nicer. Peanut shells covering the floor. Only speak to him if he speaks to you. Why – because when you watch him make his Poncha, you see the artist come out. He took the time to explain what he was doing. He takes great pride in telling you that he only uses locally sourced and freshest ingredients.

If you ask a question only do so when he is engaging with you in between each step. If he gets side tracked he will stop and start again. It’s as precise an experience as one will ever have. It is like being introduced to Picasso while he is painting or sketching a drawing. He cares about what he makes and his reputation. It is a memorable experience. A must do while visiting. I plan to be there next month partaking in this wonderful experience.

I am confident that Taberna Real Da Poncha will rank in the top of your list of places for Poncha.
