This week Japan Suica / Pasmo IC Cards Suspended indefinitely! Due to the global shortage of semiconductors, Japan has been forced to suspend the issuing of NEW Suica and Pasmo IC cards which include registered cards with your name and phone number on them. UNLESS you have this ONE thing!

In this livesteram, I’ll tell you exactly what that one thing is.

Commuter passes are still available, but are only good between two points that you will use every day. Unfortunately, this is not a viable option for most tourists.

The Mobile Suica and Pasmo apps can still be used if you can get them to work on your phone. This also has its setbacks. The app does not work with many foreign phones and/or credit cards.

DO NOT try to use Mobile Suica or Pasmo outside the app. I just tried it earlier this week and due to a know problem that they haven’t fixed yet, my credit card number was stolen. Be very careful if you try to use the mobile systems.
