Episode 30 – In the second part of this Oman documentary series we take a boat trip out to the Daymaniyat Islands. They’re a Nature Reserve protected by the Omani government since 1996 to help conserve the turtles and fish as well as the coral reefs in the area. They are located around 40 kilometers off the coast of Muscat about 45 to 50 minute boat ride from the Al Mouj Marina. The Daymaniyat Islands are an archipelago of nine small islands that make this a tourist hotspot as the island are also often called “the Jewel of the Middle East”. They are surrounded by turquoise waters and stunning coral reefs that are perfect for snorkeling and diving.

The Daymaniyat Islands is also one of the best spots in the Middle East for whale shark snorkeling and diving. That’s because the gigantic fish congregate in large numbers along Muscats coastline every summer. Whale shark season is between September to November. Whale sharks are unquestionably the most powerful fish in the ocean, with the largest reaching 12 meters in length and weighing up to 20 tons.
