Tanjong Pagar is a historic district located within the Central Business District in Singapore, spanning the areas between Chinatown and Marina Bay. The name “Tanjong Pagar” translates as “cape of stakes,” a reference to its origins as a fishing village.

Tanjong Pagar is known for its rich history and is marked by a diverse range of architecture, from shophouses to modern skyscrapers. The district was traditionally a stronghold of the shipping industry due to its proximity to the ports, but it has since developed into a prominent area for business, retail, and residential uses.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Tanjong Pagar is the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, a grand structure built in 1932 that served as the southern terminus of the Malayan Railway. As of my knowledge cutoff in 2021, the station has ceased operations but stands as a preserved building with potential for future redevelopment.

Apart from historical structures, Tanjong Pagar is home to Singapore’s tallest building, the Guoco Tower. This skyscraper comprises premium offices, a luxury hotel, residential apartments, and retail space.

Tanjong Pagar is also renowned for its food scene, offering a variety of cuisines in hawker centres, cafes, and restaurants. Some popular local dishes include Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay.

In terms of residential living, Tanjong Pagar boasts a combination of modern high-rise apartments and traditional shophouses. The district is well-connected to the rest of Singapore by an extensive public transportation network, which includes the Tanjong Pagar MRT station.
