Awesome trainset! My bucket list is to one day go to Europe to ride some of these trains. I guess I have to live vicariously thru Simply Railways for the time being… Thanks Thibault!!!
I have used it several times on the Milan-Genoa route. I must say that it‘s a very quiet train, and 'soft' on the tracks. The interior is also often clean and the spaces well used. However, I don’t agree with the comfort of the seats: it‘s true that they‘re more comfortable than other seats on other trains, but I don’t think that anyone can ever beat the comfort of those on the ETR500.
Hola Thibault! I did that same trip back in february 2020 aboard Trenitalia. It was very good!
In Italy ordinary railways have catenary of 3kV DC, while the new high-speed railways have catenary of 25 kV AC (50 hz)
Amazing
14:00 please do note, that EC trains used to stop there, in Monza, but this stop was cancelled on December 2022. The new "best practice" in Italy, is to cancel intermediate stops without changing travel times to "catch up delays".
I'm from Switzerland and haven't been on this train yet. I am sure it is a good train and very suitable for the task, but the best highspeed train in europe?
high-speed?
Hey Thibault awesome content. How about train to churchill, manitoba. Thr panama canal railroad or trains on malta. Cheers bonne chance
Every place you go seems so much better from the windows of a train.
I love the Giruno. It is a beautiful, stylish, quiet and comfortable train.
I went to Ticino last year and I was amazed that I had full 4G in the Gotthard tunnel. I watched Youtube videos 🤣
Oh…. Eine Toilette die funktioniert !! Auch das gibts bei den SBB…
A reccomendation:
Please blur general people's faces which comes in video. You should try blurring out other peoples faces like
Solo Solo Travel does in his video, it really makes the video better. Hope you find this helpful 😄
Lake Lugano is called “Lago di Ceresio” in Italian but ok 🙄
A low. This video seems pretty bribed imo. No real criticism at all, if so then downplayed. Thumbs down 👎
a bit to steril and to regional train- like for my taste…
Today IC 21 Basel SBB-Lugano and back… I work daily on Giruno's…
i love your sign language ;D great video <3
I'm actually booked on this very service in a couple weeks time.
Why Switzerland cannot build a huge Central Railway Station in Zurich -like in Berlin and Vienna?!? For trains able to go both directions?! Because Swiss are farmers, not builders?😢
Ok good train but i think frecciarossa 1000 is another level.
Every year the core of Europe moves north. Even within SUI the least developed part is Tessin! North to the future!!!😊
5:10 The train is good, but not the track. You write the distance is 250 km and the train takes a whopping 3 hours 17 minutes for it, and that's "impressive"? Seriously? That makes a lousy average speed of only 76 km/h despite the top speed of 250 km/h of the Giruno. There are only few sections for high speed in Switzerland. On the Gotthard route, it is currently only in the tunnel region (Gotthard and Ceneri). I assume that they still only run 200 km/h in the tunnels despite of their design speed of 250 km/h.
Those meals from the dining car looks so nice. Considering that I'm from Canada and being more or less used to the eye-watering Canadian prices (taxes are NOT included and you have to pay them on top of the total!), Swiss prices, judging from the menu you've shown, actually are quite reasonably priced in comparison, even with the exchange rate in mind.
Anouncements are depending in which region of Switzerland you go.
So when you travel from Basel to Geneva, you get German, French and English.
To, for example, Lugano you get Italian instead of French. and so on
Ah – Swiss quality – I'd love SBB to run the railways in Britain!
I'm swiss and I use trains in and around Zurich every day, and they are in general very good (compared to a lot of other places); but I gotta say, this highspeed train for the Gotthard route is really something else. It brings me from Zurich to Lugano – a very nice town at a lake in the italian-speaking part of Switzerland – in just 2 hours… and it's just so comfy!
It's alright, but is it even high speed? First time I took it after the Italian Freccia I felt like we were being pulled by horses. Bologna is the same distance from Milan than Zurich and it takes 1/3rd of the time.
But why people not talk with each others like years of 1970 and 1980
Good job on filming this ride.
I can see why you liked it so much!
Unfortunately, Zurich is not really at or in the heart of Switzerland. Otherwise nice report.
280 km in 3hr45min makes avg speed 75kmh while other european trains are well beyond the avg 200 kmh mark. And they claim to have the longest europe's tunnel….
Big money for nothing
The train is fast only between Lugano and Altdorf. Between Aldtorf and Zurich it takes for ever with average speed of 70 k m/h. And between Lugano and Milano it takes 1h30 minutes. I am not even sure it’s 100 km distance. On top of that, seats are really uncomfortable and the stretch in the Gottard tunnel is very loud. I have to wear ear plugs.
I know it will never happen, but this train needs to be the new Fyra in The Netherlands and Belgium.
This train is a frikkin masterpiece!
