I took a flight on a Japanese airline called AirDo, which ended up being cheaper than the taxi fare to the airport. #airdo

  1. My first trip to Japan; was when I was a youngster, with my family. HKG-HND (or, at that time TYO) , on an Alitalia DC10-30. Beautiful country, where aesthetics and extreme etiquette are important. I have been back many, many times and still love the 'quirkiness' of it; however, living there would be challenge ..especially with that 'etiquette'/'lose-of-face' component in their society! (I still have the wonderful flags, that are made into the shape of a carp fish "koinobori". Bought those, during that first trip!)

  2. LOL, ANA is absolutely NOT the dominant player at HND. You were in their terminal, so of course that's all you saw. JAL has their own domestic terminal and is just as big. If anything I'd say the 2 airlines are extremely evenly matched on domestic flights, they only compete on medium size to bigger airports, almost all of the really small airports are evenly divided between the two which I suspect is government regulation, they're called Third Class Airports and I've never seen one of those with both airlines serving it. The one differentiator between the two is that JAL has a tiny bit more leg room in Economy class and ANA's Premium Class is better than JAL's Class J, though JAL's Class J is a much less steep upcharge over Economy. Air DO BTW is just an ANA subsidiary that operates as an LCC, the plane is (an old) ANA configuration.

  3. I have always wanted to visit Japan and this just makes me want to go even more.

    Excellent video, as always!

  4. They board the windowsseats first and when you entered the play there were people sitting in a aisle seat.

  5. Having lived in Japan for 6 years and worked for Japanese airline buisnesses, you will never fail to have a warm welcome by courtoeus people. Everything is organised, clean and on time. It possibly could be your favourite country of all time Noel, enjoy it and dont forget KIX (Kansai). Now thats a great airport !

  6. My only complaint is you called it "Air Dew"
The airline is named "Air Do'h" since they are HQ'd in Hokkaido…

It isn't called "Hokkaidew" is it…

  7. Japanese airlines (including the ULCCs) have so much flare and personality compared to western carriers and the ME3 which try to simulate luxury..

  8. Never taxi from Narita to Haneda. It would even been cheaper for your flight on JAL or ANA.

  9. They have an airport limo service, basically a bus service between airports. The cost is about 3200 yen, or about 16 pounds sterling or 21 dollars US. You can ask at the information kiosk for help. Cheers.

  10. Japan has this, sometimes annoying, method of always doing things correctly. Money is often not an issue.
They see a need, they study it (and NOT for years where some study group makes tons of money) then they fix it or do it.
