    That meal looked great! Better than Business Class on domestic flights in Europe. International Premium Economy on the 787 is 8 seats across in a 2-4-2 configuration. You get more leg room and more seat recline. Economy is 9 seats across in a 3-3-3 configuration. Business Class is now almost exclusively 4 seats across in a 1-2-1 configuration. Almost no First Class anymore. But with the great Business Class seats, it's not needed and is less expensive than First Class would be. It's great for business travelers that are not permitted to buy First Class tickets, but can buy Business Class.

    @travelgeek, this is interesting but can't appreciate everything since I don't know Japanese. I wonder tho how non-Japanese are treated in Japan. The places look peaceful but many do in the U.S. In Japan tho I don't see other ethnic groups represented. It's difficult to distinguish European whites from Asians in a distance and I don't see blacks, Hispanic/Latino that I would know from a distance. And then it's not like we see the "Yakuza" parading in the streets putting on exhibitions of violence. But even in the U.S. surprisingly the amount of crime, certainly violent crime is not as high as one might expect with so many different people from different cultures from hundreds of countries around the world all trying to live in one place together. Anyway, Ty for sharing this trip, so nice seeing other places like Japan! ^_^

    Good video travelgeek. But then, most of your videos are good. Love the little injections of humor here and there.

    As far as ANA vs JAL, I’ve flown both in economy, premium and business. Economy, it’s ANA by a hair, mainly because of the food. Last time on JAL from HND-SFO, the second meal on JAL was some kind of sustainable noodle dish that, well, it was terrible. Premium is a little harder to judge. ANA has better food and the seat recline feels a little better, but JAL has 42” seat pitch vs 38” for ANA and at 6’2” tall, that extra four inches helps a lot. In business, it depends on the plane. JAL’s 1-2-1 configuration on their 787 was not comfortable for me on an overnight flight from Bangkok to HND. The angles was uncomfortable and the footwell was too small for my size 12 feet . Oddly enough, the 2-3-2 arrangement on the 777-300ER, while a little more narrow, was one of the most comfortable business class seats I’ve been in. ANA was more consistent across its fleet, but I haven’t had a chance to try their new business class seat yet, so that might change my rating. Meals on both were of comparable (very good) quality. So, absent a rating on the new ANA business seat, I’ll rate JAL slightly ahead.

    Both are fantastic airlines. As we fly SFO to Singapore a couple of times a year, we find the flights stopping in Japan better than the non-stops Singapore and United fly. It’s about 11 hours SFO-HND, then a chance to stretch our legs, and then about 7 hours to Sing. That’s just more comfortable for us old farts.
