According to historical records, Gofukuji Temple had been established in the 8th century. A famous tradition recounts the story of two oxen carrying over 600 rolls scriptures from Kyoto to Zenkoji Temple in Nagano dropped in this area. “牛伏＝Gofuku” is expressed with Chinese characters “oxen lay down”.
Ushibusegawa French-Style Staircase Construction is a facility for erosion control built in 1918 and referred to the construction method of Durance River in France. You can see beautiful cascades in the stone-made waterway.
