You are 30 minutes from a beautiful colonial era city, you have easy access to your choice of ancient ruins, and yet you spend your day in Yucatán wandering around a dumpy port town that's deserted except for in August and any days a cruise ship is in Port. There's so much to do in the Yucatán. Progreso is a place where you should either take a shore excursion or venture away from the city on your own.
Your title is clickbait. You don't talk about why it's NOT worth the stop. You actually sound like you thought the port was worth exploring. That bit of untruth in your headline alone makes me not want to subscribe to your channel.
4 Mayan ruins that are great you can get there only from that port
We go in December. I'm excited!
Been to progress a few times 5: I enjoyed my stay!!!!!
Progreso is a great place to spend a weekend. It's the 3000 "tourists" per ship that destroy it….really dude. go to malibu.
I recommend Eladio's Bar They give snacks and typical food for free to consume drinks. They will love it, and super good service.
Like, v very good video edition. Done, you have a new supporter here. Thank you
My family just got back from Pregresso. We had a horrible time in the city. Unfinished construction piles of dirt everywhere. Traffic and vendors everywhere harassing you. Once to the beach vendors on the beach are relentlessly asking you to buy goods and services. We stayed at the beach, maybe 10 minutes. Once back to the port we bought some goods from the shops and took pics. An excursion might be your best bet.
Progresso is awesome… go to the free beach by the port… the locals are very awesome… they wait on you hand and foot… bring bottles food…anything…it's super super cheap! Best place ever
Never been, but would love to go looks amazing! I always buy something from locals when I travel, and then they don't bother you. We are sharing their beautiful home and if you respect that your experience will reflect that.
I'd get off the ship but stay at the port just to walk around and have a beverage. The drive to town is not worth it. Place is a dump.
You’re so nice to the locals, & don’t seem annoyed at all. Thank you for being a kind compassionate human. 💙 I love Mexico & the people , I wished more travelers gave them the same respect you do. I see so many complaining about the people selling things at this port but it’s their home & their livelihood!
Dude looks like Donald Trump
I went and saw the zoo. They had monkeys and snakes, a lot of fun. I got my unrefined coconut oil yay!!!
what crap dump place. 3rd and last time there. 45 min ride to beach area for watered down drinks and flys on nasty food. and they want a tip for that ! WTF
How well made are the purses and how much? Do they have any designer purses?
OMG the ppl were annoying…I think it's best when u go to ports like that its best to never look at them or speak..ignore..they are annoying OMG
Good info thanks
Hey buddy just drove by in a rapper van
Progresso is awesome! I recommend you do more than just walk around and do something exciting
I was there in 2008 and it looks so different. Everything to the left of the pier was basically destroyed and laying there in piles. There was Federalis everywhere.
This is just sad, and why you should never get ON a cruise ship. You will be stuck with people like this.
At least go to the bar right there in the port. Cheap drinks and people desperate to let loose is the most fun I've had when we go. Especially when everybody is making their way back.
It damn near made me cry to see the sight and sounds of Progreso but not be able to go this year because of Covid. My wife and I rent a condo and stay for anywhere from 2 weeks to a month, depending on circumstances back home. Not every year, but it's our favorite "hot vacation" destination. It's a much different place when there is no cruise ship in port. I usually try to avoid the Malecon and Calle 80 on those days but my wife's favorite restaurant is Barlovento's so we have to brave the crowds every now and then. The real reason I went there the first time is that it's almost dead centre of the crater from the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Puerto Chicxulub, a few miles east, is the actual centre but the crater is about 180 miles across so Progreso is still pretty close. The crater has long since filled in and can't be seen any more but I just wanted to know that I'd been there. Thanks for the look around!
My brothers and I got off the boat and took a bus to a resort about 30 min from port. We saw several trucks with armed men driving by us on the road but nothing happened. Our guide said they are told to not harass us. We had a blast!
I have to say I really admire how polite u r . Thx
Was the title "click bait"? If so, he got me.
EVETHIG IS ABOUT THE MONEY IM SOORY BUT ITS TRUE EVERYWHERE YUO O YUO WORK FOR FREE AMIGO
I love Progresso! I go just about every year! I like to go downtown into the market and see the natives conducting business! Once, I got a picture of a man selling shark!!! The people running the bus also have a tourist business and I like going to one of the resorts for cheap. It is paradise!
Yes Progreso is poor, not every port in Mexico looks like Cozumel you should stay in your "mansions" in the USA. Sounds pretty hypocritical to me that you talk good about the port then tell everyone that its a dump and shouldn't get off, shame on you. Not subscribing to your two face channel.
We stopped in Progresso a number of years ago. There really is not much to do in downtown Progresso. It is basically an industrial seaport in the Yucatán on the Gulf of Mexico side. Not much glitter or glamour here. However it was a very convenient place to take the two or three hour bus ride over to the fabulous Myan ruins of Chichen Itza. There is only one pyramid like this in the New World and if you go to Progresso on a carnival ship you can take a bus ride to go see it. That alone makes progress a worthy. destination.
You are right not a lot to do there — it is a beach town and not a tourist trap! Not a lot to walk around – has a long Malecon right along the water and free internet throughout the town. Good cheap restaurants if you walk down the Malecon. One of the prettiest little Mexican shore towns – not a tourist hack like Cancun or Cozumel – I honestly didn't get off the ship in Cozumel because I saw thousands of tourists from all the ships docked there and thought why would I want to go into town – it is like the mall at Christmas – crowded with too many people!
Everyone in this planet can do a very deep research before take a trip to somewhere. In my personal understanding every traveler needs 2 main things: Information and Time. Unfortunately this video shows the result of don't have these 2 key elements. I'm not talking about money because Progreso and Mérida are so cheap that if you can't afford it is better that you stay in your home. My recommendation: Look for another experiences here in YouTube of travelers from different countries and you will ENJOY those experiences! Guaranteed!
Our cruise ship gave us Progreso instead of Jamaica because they said we pulled out of Galveston too late. Wow! I had travel insurance too, but they said as long as they gave us an alternate they didn't have to refund our money. Progreso is a tourist trap and the town is a dump. Will never travel Carnival again.
is the free bus wheelchair accessible?
You should have been there POST COVID!! Had to say no, every 3.2 seconds… It was a sea of humanity begging you to buy something….. I bought a couple things, that I wanted, like mangos with tajin, but cmon, it was difficult to even walk around, much less get to the beach, and enjoy it. The free bus took more than an hour to return……
Don’t understand your video while you’re walking around you’re saying how nice everything is a good margarita was it’s not a far walk from this or that you got a free ride to and from the ship then you knock it when you’re sitting in front of the camera 🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼 PICK ONE AND GO WITH IT MAN !!!!
Clickbait title with a walkthrough that contradicts said title.
Great video and review!
We're there any bars near the port where we could have a drink or 5 and a snack near there? We will be there this New Year's Cruise…
going tomorrow on a cruise from Mobile, ALA.. thanks for the info. I will probably stay on the ship for this one unless I can connect with someone that lives nearby.
TYPICAL AMERICAN,
Been to Progresso 6 times. We enjoy it.
Too bad they brought in cruise ships. Progreso used to be a nice quaint town…tourists like this giving out bad info about Progreso makes me mad.
