I was going to take shinkansen from osaka to tokyo this november but i decided to use overnight buses instead because i want to save money on hotel and hopefully i can sleep on the bus too 😁
What I like about taking the night bus is you save money for 1 day of lodging as well. I'll be sleeping throughout the whole $60 night bus and i can save $100 from shinkansen and $100~ for lodging. A tip for those wanting to save money.

I went from Kyoto to Hiroshima with my JR pass in April 2023. I was unable to book on the reserved carriages and was lucky to get unreserved. They were all booked out the whole weekend so don't assume you will get a seat… Book at least 2-3 days in advance (at least). And the lines in the JR office can be very long. In Ueno, I was standing in line for over 1.5 hours.
I think everyone is in Kyoto. So many people here for Gion Matsuri, same with Fukuoka a few days ago. I needed to reserve tickets several days in advance for Green Car.
Plenty of people are taking Shinkansens. My family visited 2 weeks ago. Majority of the foreign travelers take Hikari instead of Nozomi due to the JR pass restrictions. Our trains were always packed.
What seats have the mount fuji view in the way Osaka->Tokyo? What time of the day is the best to see it? Thanks

We plan to purchase Welcome Suica.
Other than for paying for train/bus, we read that Suica can also be used to pay in shops in Tokyo.
Can we also use this Welcome Suica to buy things in shops in Osaka as well?

So interesting to see the current tourist/local count inside the Tokyo Station. I am curious if you went on a weekday or a weekend, though. I was in Tokyo from May 5-10 and the area was just bustling with locals and tourists that made the experience crazy! Hopefully when I return to Japan it will be a little quieter 😍

I'm still. Confused on how the open seats work on the shinkansen. The first 3 carts are open for anyone who has a ticket? Last time I went back in '17 I had a ticket reserved and went to the correct seat but them they said I was on the wrong train but I wasn't based int he ticket. How do you know which train is right?

Is that the same Namba station where you can get the Mount Koya limited express train tickets? I've read somewhere that it was in Namba station and I've heard it's at Shin-Namba station. It's a bit confusing. 😅
