1. Gimpo Airport International Terminal
Flights to Kansai depart from Gimpo and Incheon. It was easier for us to go to Gimpo and skip the fuss and crowdedness of Incheon.
》Tip: There is only one priority pass lounge here. Security and immigration are also much shorter here too.
2. Airport Train: The Rapi:t
Kansai Airport to Centara Grand at Namba Station is roughly 45 minutes by train. We booked the Rapi:t and not an express train. If you buy a ticket from Klook, make sure to get an actual ticket from the booth.
》Tip: Book the Rapi:t Train for comfort. If you care about just hopping on, take the commuter Express Train.
3. Centara Grand
This hotel recently opened in July 2023. However, it does not disappoint. The staff is very professional and the hotel is in a quiet location with smaller eateries nearby. Additionally, there is a shopping mall in its vicinity.
》Tip: Centara is roughly 10 to 15 minutes walking distance to Dotonbiru. We like it here because it is quieter and more luxurious than the hotels closer to Dotonbori.
4. Dotonbori: Touristy
Super touristy as one would expect. However, being touristy does not equate to being overrated. Dotonbori has a lot to do, eat, and see. Here we tried Yakinuki, Takoyaki, and sushi.
》Tip: Bring cash as not all places can use cards. There are a lot of beef, seafood, noodles, etc. so check for dietary restrictions before going into a restaurant.
5. Universal Studios: Timed Entry
Mario Land and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter most likely require a timed entry pass. Today WWHP did not require one but Mario did. You will not be allowed in before your time.
》Tip: Booked timed entry for popular areas (Mario Land/Harry Potter). Also, be careful not to book the wrong ticket type depending on the season (A, B, C, D). You cannot use a “B” ticket on “C” days!
6. Bus to Kansai
The bus to Kansai departs at 4:20pm and other times. You can only pay at the bus stop. It was not full by any means but be careful not to rely on luck to have a seat.
》Tip: If you must use the bus, come at least 20 to 30 minutes early depending on the day/season. You don’t want to end up taking an expensive taxi to get to the airport.
