Honestly if she mentioned longaniza, garlic rice and eggs for breakfast i woulda believed her more LOL.
Let's not forget what America did to the Filipinos during the Philippine-American war. America's equivalent of Nanking
Anything for clout and the next million. Gross
Which Asian are they?
I. John Cho, Asian American actor who plays generic Asian character who happens to be Korean descent.
II. Steven Yeun, Korean American actor who plays roles to represent Koreans and Korean Americans, learned Korean to be in Korean drama/movies, collaborated with actors and directors from Korea, and proud to sharing Korean culture i.e. K-spa culture on Conan.
Jo Koy is definitely Type II…others maybe Type I?
I suppose older you are, you were encouraged to assimilate into white culture whereas now adays your diversity and bilingualism is considered a strength.
rosé from blackpink is pronounced rosay cmon now
Kai Sotto will be the first full Filipino to have 4 Pre-NBA DNPs!
Olivia Rodrigo has always identified as Filipina-American. Why is this even a discussion? Even on all of her TV roles on Disney Channel (Bizaardvark, HSMTMTS) her parents have been Filipino. Her best friends are Asian American (her co-star from Bizaardvark, and Conan Gray (hapa). I'm confused why anyone would be questioning her Asian American / Filipina American creds.
I’m Fili-Am and I loved what Cameron Diaz said. I grew up with mostly Jewish people and have a lot of familiarity with the culture. I’m not baiting when I talk about it. But Pinoy baiting does exist online and it’s annoying, very patronizing. I see it with travel vloggers a lot. I think the biggest problem is that people don’t know the history of the US in the Philippines. Americans don’t know it bc we weren’t taught it, and even Filipinos aren’t taught a lot of their own history in school. The more you learn, though, the more resentment you feel toward the US. They are NOT the good guys in the Philippines!
Pancit all the way!!!
Back in 2013 Bruno Mars raised and donated a lot of money for Haiyan Typhoon victims. He didn't play this up in the US media because he's a real one.
Cameron Diaz was from Long Beach I can totally see that she had Filipino friends. Long Beach at a naval shipyard and there were plenty of Filipinos in the navy.
Bruno Mars’ mom was full Filipino I believe and Hawaii passes Filipinos as Hawaiians all the time at the Luaus lol.
As a hapa, I feel like it makes sense to be skeptical of part Asians not ever talking about being Asian until it benefits them in some way, especially if they don't look "traditionally" Asian. Sort of like Olivia Rodrigo.
10:48 When I first watched your videos maybe like 10 years ago, I thought you were Filipinos, specifically Tsinoys whose parents or grandparents migrated to the US in the 70s. 😅
I got some Longanissa for Cameron Diaz.
Of course they are . They never mentioned years ago
i hate being considered only indian when im indian american. why are italian americans considered white/american and not italian american?
Not one of those Filipino celebrities are pure full Filipino. They always have to be part Filipino to make it in Hollywood.
One can make bad rice and one can cook rice well but no one cooks the best rice. That doesn't make sense unless you're talking about garlic rice as rice.
Why y’all miss Vanessa Hudgens and her documentary?
For me my definition of filipino baiting is non filipino influencers using filipinos for views such as doing reaction videos of filipino singers, eating at jollibee and lumpia etc. Filipinos are hooked to these contents because it was all rooted to filipino's insecurities and thirst for global validation.
None of them don't fall to that definition because they have filipino ancestry. The issue is that if their experience of what they called filipino culture by eating filipino food or other shallow encounters with that culture even though not able to speak the motherland language or have never visited the country is enough or proof to claim they have connections to their heritage.
Bruno Mars declared he was Filipino a decade ago on SNL.
Guys, visit the Philippine islands. Imagine doing your vlog in Palawan.
Dave hit us with the Double Dragon reference. I remember that game.
A classic throwback 👍🏿
That Cameron Diaz interview was like almost 10 years ago……and y'all crying about this now?, yo the best way to introduce Filipino food to non Filipino is Lumpia and Adobo!.
Love you guys for bringing this up!
Aside from those mentioned, you definitely see a lot of pinoy/filipino baiters, especially here in the Philippines. Bunch of foreigners coming here doing content; all claiming to have Filipino food for the very first time, going to a “dangerous area” in Manila, having balut etc.
And the reason is they can easily exploit the ignorance that is present in this country. You know how it is, the simpletons glorify these yts. On top of that they make good money to fund their travels. These people don’t care about the Philippines or the culture, they just here to make some money and leave.
Filipinos always welcome other multi-race with filipino blood. Heck being a filipino is already being a multi-race, there is no pure blood in filipino unless you are from the indigenous tribe like the aetas but even them are getting mixed with other filipino. Filipinos have spanish, chinese, american, japanese, Austronesian genes in them. Also if you get famous abroad then you also get famous and widely accepted in the Philippines as a Filipino no question asked. There are filipinos all over the world and have mixed with other races and the result is a very open community for those in another country with filipino blood.
filipino from the philippines here
cameron diaz is ok, i don't think she was pinoy baiting. not surprised fil-ams are offended lmao
Prepare for the views and comments lol
Cameron Diaz was obviously pandering for the camera because she was talking to a Filipina interviewer. She was putting on an act, hence why she's in Hollywood. A lot of celebrities will compliment the guest country they're visiting while on tour, it's a facade of PR.
People just need to proud of those who claim/acknowledge their Filipino side. It's about time. Growing up in the USA as a filipino, many hid and were ashamed. Now people are not hiding, give them kudos for that
With these celebrities, I reckon it's a mix of PR & genuine interest. But the way Cameron Diaz was talking – maybe she's slept with a Filipino guy in the past .. I also made a few videos on Filipino food here in London, but it's not my intention to Pinoy-bait, only to document food places. To me, it seems that the more half-assed the bait is, the more baiting it seems.
The Orlando Magic just realized they missed out on more Filipino baiting! Finally gave Kai Sotto some minutes and appeared to impact the game effectively.
I could eat lumpia every day if given the chance. And homemade? It’s over. They’d get tired of me. Ban me from coming over
Lou Diamond Phillips is Filipino, yet hes played majority latino roles. Honestly i see him as a honorary member of the latino community.
I am half Filipino and half white. I definitely identify more with my Filipino side, going to a lot of family functions growing up and joining the Filipino club at university. Tbh I've never really gotten shit for being "only" half, but that's because I love my culture and embrace it fully. I am also more Filipino presenting. I don't like when people say I'm "leaning" more into my Filipino side for personal gain because I've always been passionate about my culture.
The thing about mixed Filipinos is that they'll get no attention when they are a nobody, but the entire Philippines will rave about them once they become famous. So it's a bit hypocritical. The rookie shortstop for the yankees, Anthony Volpe, is half Filipino/Italian and once Filipinos caught wind of that it was a whole big thing here in New York.
Out of all the Asians, Filipinos ride or die for no matter what percentage they are, haha! Aunties will always remind you which celebrity is Filipino. “Did you know rob Schneider is Filipino, he’s so funny I like him” “Bruno Mars sang in Tagalog, he’s so talented” My mom will constantly remind me who is Filipino and say they are talented because they are Filipino. The way we hold it down for Filipinos is through hard representation and pride.
Pinoys lmfao
even though they are well known celebrities I believe most of them know and have hella asian friends, that and they like hella asian stuff and things no one really knows or talk about “everybody’s got their private lives too outside of the limelight/spotlight 🤙🤙
“Do the work.” Exactly! 😅
Alot of Filipinos – especially from the Philippines – deserve to be baited. They're the ones begging content creators to do videos about the Philippines because they're seeking validation.
They got Negritos too!
Jo koy is more Filipino than every Filipino-american. The dude can speak Tagalog more than the most Filipino-American
