Lake Akan, Hokkaido (北海道阿寒湖) – Ainu traditional lunch at Poronno (アイヌ料理の店 ポロンノ )

We had a traditional Ainu lunch at Lake Akan Ainu Kotan (阿寒湖アイヌコタン), a lakeside village of the indigenous Ainu people (in Hokkaido) which consists mainly of one street lined by souvenir shops specializing in Ainu handicrafts as well as a museum and the “Ikor” theater where various traditional Ainu performances are staged. Poronno serves a variety of food and beverage offerings, including Ainu dishes. However, to get the full experience, you need to purchase a meal ticket from the reception window inside the Ikor Theater; the set course is not served otherwise. Our lunch meal consisted of:

* Amam (Rice cooked with Beans or Millet)
アマム(豆やいなきびの入った炊き込みご飯)

* FOR HIM: Yukohaw (soup with deer meat)
ユクオハウ(鹿肉入りの汁物)

メフン(鮭の腎臓の塩辛)
