Holland America Line. Who it it for? Is Holland America Line just for old people? That seem’s to be the most common question I have gotten after I cruised on the line. Old people do love Holland America Line and here are the reasons why.

“old” people like the cruise talks because they like things before the Internet?! That’s the most bullshit thing you’ve ever said. I really like your channel, and you’ve pissed me off tonight.
Thank you Tony- we are 4-STAR cruisers (also diamond plus on Royal) so we know both very well. You didn't mention Lincoln Center quartet, but they are changing that and maybe it wasn't available. Spot on Tony and glad you enjoyed……BTW I don't THINK I'm old, but I'm 66.! Rock on❤
I'm about your age, and all we did was club & dance. Perhaps it is more geographical than age. I was a youth in PA, then an early 20's in the military in Myrtle Beach, SC. We clubbed 6 nights a week. (Clubs were closed on Sundays due to Blue Laws).
Haha! My clients used to come in and tell me that all of the "old people" with wheelchairs and oxygen tanks go on Holland America. OK people, wake up! My first cruise on Holland, I was in my late 30's, and yes, I was a bit young but still loved the quality of the cruise. However, all of those "old people" took their kids and grandkids on family vacations. Needless to say, those kids and grandkids who are grown up now, are accustomed to the cruiseline. I truly believe that you cruise the ship that fits the experience that you are looking for. Tony did a great job explaining what the experience is. Also, they tend to have more families with kids in Alaska and have a wonderful kids program to educate the children when in Alaska. So, don't cut them out if they provide the ports and experience that you are looking for.
I started cruising HAL in my mid-40's. It's for people who like relaxation and education rather than constant partying.. Now I'im in my mid-50's and still cruising with them. HAL does longer itineraries and older people have time for those. I do their "shorter" (7 days) cruises, and have a 12-day Panama Canal cruise planned for next year.
I'm 50 y.o. and I'm part of a dance community. In the middle and late 1990s Gap ran a commercial series known as Gap Swing, and with the movie Swing Kids that featured a young Christian Bale, it breathe life in an underground culture that's still around today.
So yes, we Gen Xers did dance and enjoyed it. And if you didn't know it existed, it's quite easy to not notice it.
I took my first cruise on Holland America and I was 39. I wasn't the youngest either. It was a cruise to Alaska. Recently I took a similar cruise on Princess. I enjoyed Holland America more. Princess had better food but they often ran out of food I wanted. In sailing through the Inside Passage my interest in Alaska. I'm not interested in shows and gambling and drinking. I would rather enjoy the scenery. I wish all cruise lines would use the area they are cruising through as a theme. We stop at a port and it's Alaska and then we get on the ship and Alaska is completely forgotten until the next port. The shops and bars on Princess were located in front of the windows so we couldn't see much inside the ship and outside it was a bit cold. Holland America ships are more attractive than Princess. Princess decor was rather old-fashioned. I took another cruise on Holland America, New England Canada and I was 54 and I was a youngster on that cruise (but I wasn't the youngest).
It’s all relative!! Only as old as you feel!
"Old" is 20 years older than you are, whatever age you are.
What the hell's so wrong with having a cruise line dedicated to people 55+, just like so many places where aging people live? Why not go aboard a ship that resembles The Villages, the world's largest old-folks home with over 100,000 residents? Who cares about the young 'uns once you've emptied your nest? Who wants to hear the shrieking, commanding parents and their bawling children? Who wants to put up with people with no table manners and can't manage to shut up during performances? In all of my cruises on mainstream lines, I have NEVER played a video game in the arcade and never went on that surf simulator. Anyone who wants to cruise among like-minded people who have a bit of problem hearing or walking unaided should ONLY go on HAL for the money, unless you can afford Oceania, Regent, Seabourne…
Love Holland America dam ships. Started at 60, now 79 . May be older and feel 40.😊
HAL World Cruises have four dancers for ladies who don't have partners. Oh, and they have dance lessons – all kinds of dances. Love HAL.
I think you were looking for "whippersnapper". And "Get off my lawn!"
Did my first HAL recently. Was so excited as I’d heard so much about their food and hospitality. Was so disappointed. Food was mediocre and usually arrived cold. The anytime dining staff were not welcoming and seemed irritated we showed up for breakfast. Impossible to get juice or coffee. I really wanted to love them. One and done for us.
You presented and explained this potentially sensitive topic very well, Tony!!
I’m that Grandma with a toy box. I love the fact that there aren’t a bunch of party animals, respectful people. I love how at night by the lido pool I’m the only one there with a drink watching the sun set. It’s so peaceful.
We were on the Volendam and there isn't a music walk but there was still lots of live music and my 11yr old absolutely loved the dance shows on the main stage.
My wife and I love HAL.
You talk about Jenny B. A lot (good to do) I think you said she books your travel. Is she a travel agent? If she is, how can we make contact with her?
Our first cruise was on Holland to Alaska and we had a great time! We were in our early 40s. Bars closed early, but otherwise it was a fun time!
Thanks!
I love your videos and I laughed out loud a couple times with this one. Keep up the good work Tony.
We did an Alaskan cruise on HA with a 5- year old. There were more staff than kids in the kids club. generally, we had the pool to ourselves. Overall we enjoyed it very much.
At 61, I feel you are only as old as you feel. My mind tells me I am still young and can do things I did at 21. But sometimes my body tells me hold on a minute buddy, no you can't. Except for the joint acks, gout and other things that come with age I would love to live another 61 years, doing what you do, cruising and telling us all about it. Thanks for your "hard work" and great reviews. Keep them coming! Viva La Lido Loca
Have you ever done a Sandy Beach Cruise? If so can I find a video on your review if you did one?
I am the oldest 62-year-old ever. A Roman Candle of a life that has left me older physically. I love fine food and fine dining (that is a real thing and more difficult time finding in masse. Also a slower pace with like-minded folks. Just like in the 80s, we loved Carnival and other party ships. Not now 🙂 I really like your videos
Just returned from a transatlantic on HAL. I'm mid 60s and it was ok but not my favorite by far. (Maybe because it was transatlantic.) Food was ok but plain and seemed to repeat often. This was on Zuiderdam. The enrichment program could have been good, but the presenter was boring, like a bad professor boring. I did enjoy the art classes, trivia and game shows and the cruise itself was fine, just maybe not enough excitement for me. Even the casino was empty most of the time. 😮 Shout out to the people working on the Lido as they were wonderful! I do agree about the ports, Tony. We had 10 to 12 hours in many of them. I would cruise with Holland America again but maybe in a few years when I'm a little older. 😂😂😂
I'm definitely in the cool kids club!!!
Laughed all the way through this – excellent video!
You nailed it on this video Tony. Bo reason to watch another video about cruising on Holland America. As someone who has also been on HA cruises for about 30 days every point you made was exactly on point.
I loved my HAL cruises (in my mid-30s). It was so laid back and relaxing
I love your channel and your spirit. Praise~!! ..from a never cruised_er
We just got off a Holland America cruise to Alaska last week. Our group included people who were 15, 19, 26, 50, and 81. Surprisingly, my 81 year old dad was the one who seemed to like it the least! He was also the only one who said that he didn't think it was good for kids. It was definitely very different than our usual cruise lines (Royal Caribbean and Disney), but the rest of us all found things that we really liked.
Still cutting the rug at 68 and 74.. – Good music has a way of getting you on that dance floor and letting your back bone slide.. 🌷
I was a passenger may 6th-20th on the Rotterdam this year, 2023! really amazing ship and amazing destinations, im 35 and felt a little out of place from time to time there were largely alot of people 65+ which i get that. still a beautiful ship and alot of great things to do and a relaxing 2 weeks!
To most young people anyone 50 and older is considered old , welcome to the old people club I’m ( 65 by the way) don’t feel old but I’m considered old so yes young ones generally think 50+ considered. Old especially if your sporting some grey hair too 🤷🏽♀️
My daughter has cruised on HAL since she was 3 and has always loved it. We aren’t party people so we love HAL and the service for us has always been superb.
I can’t agree with you more
in regards to HAL. I love their
venues and cruises.
Food is always important
Been on holland at different ages and planning one for 2024
Hahaha ..geez thanks Tony. I don't have much time to enjoy myself while on vacation due to my age 😂😂.. we are finally gonna try Holland in October. We can't wait…
Thoughtful, crisp and insightful analysis/commentary. Thank you.
We have traveled twice now with HAL and, while very different experiences, we loved it! Their staff seem genuinely happy to work with HAL & they are very attentive. Great video!❤
My daughter just wants tea time 🤷♀️ We aren’t even British 🤦♀️
