Within Iwate Prefecture in Japan, there is an entire town named after Haikyuu!!
Everywhere you walk, you can see evidence of the anime either from the posters or from recognizing the buildings and the streets, it’s the Haikyuu!! town.
And when you walk around, you feel it. You feel like you’re really there.
As a big fan of Haikyu!!, I went to Karumai.

Karasuno vs Karumai
So in the manga and the anime, Karasuno High School where Hinata and all the main characters attend school is located in Miyagi Prefecture.
But the actual Karumai town that’s the model for Karasuno is not in Miyagi. It’s actually in Iwate Prefecture.
This is a bit confusing. So if you’re trying to get there, do not go to Miyagi because you will not find it.
The real live town, Karumai, is actually located within Iwate Prefecture so don’t get lost.
How to get to Karumai?
Karumai is a bit far from Tokyo. It’s around 3 hours by bullet train and then another hour by bus just to get there. So while we’re heading up there, I’m going to tell you something a little bit interesting. It’s around 3 hours by bullet train and then another hour by bus just to get there.
This scene appears in chapter 32 of the manga. It’s also in the movie, Owari to Hajimari, which is a compilation movie. It has some additional scenes like this one.
In front, there is another location where Kuroo and Kenma have a scene together. This is the scene where Kenma and Kuroo are talking, kind of thinking back on how Kenma wasn’t sure if he was going to play and Kuroo was telling him that they’re stronger if he does play.
This is where Yamaguchi goes to practice his jump serve with Shimada. Yeah, so this would be a fun place to practice your jump serve if you’re into volleyball. Maybe get some jump float in as well. It will be pretty cool. Let’s go to the next one.

Waiting for the part 2❤️
Soooooooo amazing !!!!!!!!! But have pandemic 😔
Did you need to book ahead for a stay at that ryokan?
How did you get from the Train station to Kuramai? And wat transportation did you use to explore all the places in Kuramai? 😊
Wow, I taught English in Karumai junior high back in 2014 and that video brought back so many wonderful memories of that little town. I go back there every year to just walk around. Trust me, it wasn't the time of the year this video was filmed, it's always dead no mater what time of the year you are there. I have no idea what Haikyuu is but it's nice to know my little town is famous for something 🙂
If anyone has any questions about getting to Karumai, please contact me. I taught English there for a year and I go back there many times a year just to walk around. Trust me, it's always a ghost town regardless of the time of you year you visit. As much as In love my little town there is nothing to do there.
i really i want to go there tho sobs :'))
I would fucking cry…. literally my dream… The memories when i first watch haikyuu. :]
where is part 2?????
Well crap, now I have to go to Iwate.
HOLY SHEESH THIS LOOKS SOOOOO NICE AND IT'S SUCH A DREAM COMING TRUE UGHHHH
I'm definitely putting this on my bucket list and using this to motivate myself to study and get into a good grad school so i can go there for my college graduation summer trip
The author of haikyu Furudate-sensei lived and studied in Iwate preferecture in Karumai until highschool. Karumai Highschool, were he studied and played as a Middle blocker, is the same place and school that karasuno is based off. After graduating highschool, he lived in Miyagi preferecture which explains why he uses it as the setting of Haikyu as well😊
Tobe Fly High..

Waiting for part 2!
Super looking forward to Part 2! I'm hoping you'll share us your journey again. I'm interested in going to this town to visit the cool spots from Haikyuu in the near future, and I'd 100% make this (and part 2's) video a reference! Any estimate when It'll be uploaded? Thanks in advance!
Okaaaaaay, ahora tengo un nuevo lugar por agendar en mi viaje a Japón, estoy emocionada por conocer! ♥

WHERE IS PART 2?!?!?!
Just got back from doing this trip. It was amazing – the best bit was meeting all the locals who love Haikyuu. Obonai Ryokan (Jaybird Inn from Season 4) was absolutely fantastic, and eating Haikyuu ramen at Karumai Shokudo (Saeko’s restaurant) was delicious. I know the locals would love more visitors. Would love to see your Part 2 posted at some stage, too!
Я хочу туда 😭
@mipon please can you tell us what the special suprise is at the Ryokan for haikyu fans?
