Japan Travel: A Fun Elegance in Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza in Nagano 47
Kyu-Karuizawa (旧軽井沢), located in Nagano Prefecture, was only known, historically, as the post town between the imperial capital Kyoto with the shogun capital Edo (currently Tokyo) during the Edo Period. However, presently Kyu-Karuizawa is well-known as center of the Karuizawa resort area.
The town has a great atmosphere with chic restaurants and cafes as well as forested residential districts made up of holiday villas. Bowling, golf, cycling and so on can be experienced here as well. Shoppers will especially enjoy Prince Shopping Plaza and the Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza.
Kyu-Karuizawa has many shopping opportunities, including a local version of Ginza, Tokyo’s famous upscale shopping district. The Karuizawa Ginza shopping street follows this style with its sophisticated ambiance. Shoppers are able to stroll down the streets for souvenirs or local desserts. Jam is a local specialty of Kyu-Karuizawa and various flavors of jam can be purchased here.
