I splashed out on a cruise on the “world’s most luxurious line” (Regent Seven Seas) to test if it meets all the hype their fans say about them. This is how it went, where I thought my high fare was (and wasn’t going)

  1. As a longtime Regent customer, I was glad you commented on the lack of a casual dinner option on the days you don’t want to dress for dinner or eat a full meal. They have that on Oceania and, inasmuch as the evening buffet tracked the dining room menu, it was especially well-regarded. On this issue, Regent could learn well from its sister line.

  2. Explorer is much better than navigator, you’ll enjoy that. Totally agree about canards queens grill and regent food. You have to factor into your equation of navigator that it is mainly based for our colonial cousins and that’s exactly what they demand!

  3. That "stocked" mini bar didn't look very stocked to me. Princess FULLY stocks it to overflowing. And for FREE if you are Elite. (15 cruises)

  4. If wanting destination immersion the higher end ships have an advantage. The ship is more of a quality Hotel with a great lounge and restaurant. This works great if you enjoy low key Sea-days.

  5. I could never afford a luxury/ultra luxury cruise. If I am ever blessed to do so your vlogs will have prepared me.

  6. Loved Ella, Mark, Joy, Gede and so many others on the Navigator! Their wonderful service elevates the cruise. Surprisingly, the casino was the emptiest I have ever cruised with,!

  7. I think Viking Ocean has evaluated all the luxury lines and come up with their own version which eliminates the overkill and concentrates on the best experience for a lot less money.

  8. It must be a €6000 minimum for 13 days cruise on the Navigator. Other offers are about €4500 for 8 days. It's about €500 a day. Luxury dining in a 3 Michelin star restaurant would set you back about €450 including paired wine. But now you sail and have other amenities and things. It's more the kind of people you pay for, like "no kids" and the absence of childish fun like a water shoot going outside of the ship or a skart racetrack on the top deck. But do I want to play trivia for €500 a night? No, I'd rather play bridge, chess or go. So, the level of sophistication, intelligent stuff and more intellectual stuff is left wanting, perhaps due to the kind of folk that is not bothered by boring stuff and has no bone with splurging money to go on such a cruise. I'd never go alone on such a cruise except as a lecturer to entertain the guests on unexpected and interesting lectures. But then again, what would these people be interested in? I dare not think of that.

  9. Gary, thank you as always. As my life goes on, I look to accomplish bucket list items. One was to do a Ultra-Luxury Cruise. I am a planner and focus on logic and strategy. I did an elaborate Excel with all the brands. Truth be told, I really wanted Regent Seven Seas. After 30 cruises, one on a luxury line (Crystal not Ultra-Luxury), I realize both the cost and experience would not create a good business decision on my part. YouTube videos like yours support my claim. Thank you again and cruise well, enjoy every moment.

  10. Whilst I probably wont ever cruise with them because of cost and the fact we can do several other cruises for the price of one with Regent…I do however find it comforting that they havent dropped the quality level just to capture a bigger share of the market, it means we all still have something to dream and aspire to.

  11. This was really interesting, I watched rhe Channel 5 doc on this, nice to see another viewpoint!

  12. We can't match your 100 cruises – our next one will be no. 67, but that does include 9 or 10 cruises at 6+ weeks. Initially our cruising was about the destination and we accepted long flights, & mainstream cruise lines as long as the accomodation had a seawiew, was in good condition and the food was reasonable. Now having been most places, (and got old and grumpy), we are a lot choosier over the ship (& the flying!) so we've been trying Oceania, Saga's new ships, Silverseas and Cunard Queens Grill – although our last trip was Princess Grill -wherer we found the food as good as QG and the Princess Grill cabin the quietest (important!) and most comfortable we've ever had. However our best exeriences have been with Regent (not least because of the included drinks & trips!) – which is the reason we got to your video as we are trying the Seven Seas Navigator in a few weeks.

  13. I truly appreciate all of your videos! Your content is well-thought-out. You give really good tips based on your considerable experience as a professional cruise traveler. I am a solo traveler. One thing I would like to hear when you review specific cruise lines/cruises is whether, as a solo traveler, you paid double the fare (the cost of the fare for a couple) for your accommodations. I know from your past videos that you do often travel with your partner. It would be helpful to know, though, if there are any incentives for solo travelers like me to even look at Regent Seven Seas. I love the idea of luxury cruise travel but always hesitate to pay twice the cost. (I do know that the cruise lines are there to make money and that one person taking up the space of two fare-paying people is a serious consideration in their pricing.) Thank you, Gary!

  14. I do wish there were some cruises with an emphasis on health – with healthy food options that are still delicious. Even sugar free and lighter desserts, breakfast healthy options etc

  15. I am nervous to try a cruise at all because I don't enjoy alcohol. I love the respect and support of beverage alternatives given to those who don't imbibe by Regency. I want afternoon tea and small group excursions. I'm looking at Virgin, simply to not have to endure unattended children but also since they seem the best for my personality and a first time cruise experience. Can anyone give advice?

  16. Haha although i appear for but a few seconds, hey look im famous! 😀 (i am the bald guy at the left side on 6:14 with the red vest) too bad i couldnt get more screen time haha!

  17. Hi!! I know this video is a few months old, but would you say that the food is better than Oceania?
