Frenchman Emmanuel Marès meets experts at famous gardens in Kyoto, to explore the unique aesthetic of Japanese gardens. First, he visits Saiho-ji Temple, nicknamed “moss temple” because its garden features over 120 types of moss. He speaks with modern-day priests to learn more about its connection to Zen philosophy.
Next, Marès heads to Shoden-ji Temple, which takes up the “borrowed scenery” that incorporates a mountain as a spectacular backdrop for its garden. What is the fascination of the garden of the borrowed scenery that rock star David Bowie often visited and was deeply moved?
His third destination is Kennin-ji Temple, where the rooms overlooking the garden feature famous folding screens and fusuma paintings. In one of the rooms, the temple commissioned a new fusuma painting by an artist who incorporated dyeing techniques into her paintings, creating a masterpiece of modern art, collaborating with the garden scenery.
First aired on NHK WORLD-JAPAN/jibtv on 2021/12/24.

You need partnerships 190 countries world wide friends, Mother Earth's asking us gardening and build up oxygen factories, everybody must live in such paradise gardens from now on, including industrial companies, airports and.. urban areas, still the best deal for most people healing from depression or addiction or lack of any other job or inmates in jail, everybody can heal by getting back this symbiotic relationship with Mother Nature
What a stupid comparison with Japan.
Different race, uniformity in thinking, living, eTing.
Buddhism went from India. Look at our philosophy, pour Vedas, our different music, dance.
They DON'T anything like this
Think before comparing two different, races.
Absolutely beautiful. What an amazing legacy of beauty. This man has a passion that he is sharing. Thank you.
no words can come close to the messages the gardens convey, thx so very much

Il Giappone è davvero un interesse positivo
Espectacular!🙏😌I think we ow to Japan a lot of the world’s actual refinement
Emptiness of society, I take that as a correct explanation of the world noise. Peace in quite nature needs to be encouraged. It will help to reflect on our being, our Creator The Father.
Watching this video was such an emotional experience for me. During our two trips to Japan, we visited many Japanese gardens.. In our current home, I dedicated the front yard to the landscaping of my own Japanese garden, so inspired by all of the beauty and peace in nature when we were there. Thank you for teaching people about these beautiful places. They are the treasures of our planet.
Just unbelievably beautiful!
People also need to understand many of these Japanese gardens are designed on the edge of forest as a buffer zone. To assume these gardens are beneficial to organisms is false and misleading. There are permaculture designs that help increase organisms where many of these designs kill the habitat for beneficial organisms as well as deplete soil and surroundings of important nutrients. It is for design not for nature do not confuse them, beauty should be seen in nature not seen in the fight against it.
Beautiful!
Now try to explain this to these greedy fukkers called developers.
Their ONLY CONCEPT is called MONEY!!!!
I think Japan us the most beautiful country on earth. Their pagodas were built without nails! Their bridges without nails! Everything is done with such care. What is utilitarian is also aesthetically pleasing. Respect for the wisdom of elders… The sheer beauty of their textiles! How harmonious is the kimono in the context of a garden? It shines like a jewel in the simplicity of their homes. The Japanese are a complex and paradoxical people, and their country and aesthetic is GORGEOUS!
,,, th' moss garden … a revelation … thanks n kudos from Berlin . . .
This video shows the beauty of Saihoji very well. I visited it this April and love it. This video shows the upper garden beyond the Kojokan where I couldn’t go up. I saw Karesansui gardens which I learned from the book. I wish I could see the inside of tee houses.
Gad damn this shit is fawking so awesome!

"A garden is a work of art, one that involves the climate, the soil and the passage of time."

無いものねだりでしょうか? 西洋にないものに価値観を抱き美を見出す。
逆に西洋の美に恋い焦がれ美を見出す。
でも、それでよいと考えます、お互いをリスペクトできる心が美しく争いを消去すると考えます。

everything about Japan is fascinating… while watching this video it felt like no one lives around here… maybe all Japanese have moved to Tokyo and all these relics from the past are being preserved and revered by a few… humans have been pushed away so these precious artifacts could be groomed and saved
We Hindus belief in rebirth. I hope I can be reborn in Japan 🙏
Harmonie avec la nature…..☺
In the manners of ingredients for interior, exterior and landscape
I don't know why but every time I see Japanese zen gardens, musics, I find myself in peace, from deep inside I hear "I am Home" ❤
