I have been stopped many times by airport security while traveling through the USA and in airports around the world. I almost missed my flight home after having to repack my entire hand luggage in the Danang Vietnam airport!     It was not me, but someone I knew accidently had a huge bottle of lube in her carry on. She is 6' tall and looks like someone you shouldn't mess with. They told her to hand over the bottle, which she did, though reluctantly. Then they must have looked her up and down–they handed it back and said "sorry for the delay, ma'am". 😀

    The fact that they'll allow more hand sanitizer & baby things & etc just shows how arbitrary some of these security rules are. I thought the liquid limit was to protect us from terrorists bringing on explosive makings but who thinks a terrorist wouldn't use as baby as cover? This arbitrary authoritarianism needs to stop.

    I flew from NY to London in January, silly me forgot to take my earbuds out of my pocket, so they got confiscated :’( I had to spend a ridiculous amount of money to buy new ones before my flight

    When I was around 6 or 7, I went to England and stayed for Christmas. On the way home I was bringing nail polish with me (as I had got it for Christmas) and we forgot that I had them, therefore they weren’t in a plastic bag. We got stopped and were so worried and confused. I laugh at it today. 😂

    While on vacation I purchased a new Yeti can cooler sleeve, but in order for it to be properly advertised as such the display can was a secret hiding bank that came free with the can cooler sleeve. Although it was empty and nothing hidden in the can at the time security thoroughly searched my whole bag, examined the can carefully, and asked a bunch of questions about its purpose in my bag.

    I was stopped for a nail clipper. It has a pointy end so it makes sense. Although they let me keep it, I’ll remember not to take one again

    My mom had bout a soda from the airport before going thru security remind you she wasn’t even going on the plane just me they made her throw it away and was rude with it and she had just bout it I thought they said if u buy something at the airport u can still have it with u no matter what 🤦🏽‍♀️

    I was stopped and searched, with a manual bag inspection. Apparently, Bath & Body Works lotion on your hands triggers for explosive residue when swabbed. I got selected for that because of a, clearly visible, metal barrette and Spain of small post earrings.

    I now wash my hands and arms before getting into line (and wait to reapply lotion until after I'm through) and wear no jewelry whatsoever but my wedding ring. My father had passed the day before, so I was not in a good place and rather desperate to get to my mother. Then I got delayed in Minneapolis by the polar vortex (deicing was a big issue.)

    Good information!
    Some years ago, I was having trouble with a bad flare up of sciatica and brought a seat cushion as recommended by my Dr. I had no idea that it would cause such a commotion at TSA — especially since it was made of similar materials to the travel pillows sold in all airports- eventually I was allowed to carry it and had no problems on the way back.

    Our niece had her pepper spray confiscated on the way into a play even though she had it in a clear bag. None of us thought about it but it is classified as a weapon. She like many high school and college students carry one for protection, especially in large cities. We all understood but just hadn’t thought about it.

    We had nail scissors taken away in Italy in 2003. They’d been in our carry on luggage through a few airports but we didn’t know that because we thought we’d lost them!

    I actually think scissors should not be allowed. I think you said they are permitted up to 4 inches. That seems crazy to me! I also think it’s crazy for corkscrews to be permitted. Maybe I’m just overly cautious but I don’t see why they’d be a necessity to take on board. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I’m a ‘senior citizen’ (or so they say) with white hair and age lines… TSA went thru my bags on one domestic flight – they used that sniffer wand thing to search for something in my bag… I asked the TSA dude WHY? He said I was suspicious bcoz I had a marijuana sticker on my laptop case. ‘I do?’ I asked… He said ‘Yeah’ and pointed at it. It’s a Hindu devotional sticker depicting Krishna and a Gopi relaxing together in a jungle setting… I told him ‘You need to take a botany class man… what you’re calling marijuana is definitely a BANANA LEAF!’
    …So annoying!

    One time I brought a Blendjet bottle for mixing protein shakes, initially they weren’t going to let me keep it, but a supervisor told the agent it was ok…now I will only put it in a checked bag

    I have PTSD and flying soon soo I trying and asking everything I can before I get close to the 2 weeks before I travel

    Just curious I am a male 18 and don't a drinker but I have a lot of heart burn if I have soda but I love soda so I plan to bring a flak a silver one empty for the travel and fill it with water latter after I am far from the plane is this allowed it seems like I is but I am not sure

    I'm just seeing this now (2023), even though it says it was published 2 years ago. Anyway, I have been stopped, patted down, and wanded, just to figure out that I have staples from one of my surgeries. I had completely forgotten about it. TSA let me through, but I always set off the scanner. I know that there is a card I can get that will show that I have a staple and may set off the scanner, but I haven't been able to discuss that with my doc because I keep forgetting about it. Just to let everyone know, that didn't already know this, that they may want to carry around documentation for any metals they may have in the body.

    I get stopped for nothing then after they checked me they are like we do random checks, they emptied my Husbands holdall and did a drug test i went through the other body scanners etc lol i must look guilty as i HATE going through security

    I was stopped for a tube of non-aerosol shave cream. I do not remember the size, but it was over the limit. It was confiscated.

    Its actually really funny. I was stopped by security because something in my back back looked like really big and sharp knives. I looked at the screen and I was floored. They unpacked my bags and we all laughed. It was a tinkerbelle statue I got there.

    I was coming back from a gaming and cruising event. I got a free board game from attending the event, and I was stopped by TSA. I had to open the bag. I explained it was a board game and was asked if there was a deck of cards in it. I haven't opened the game yet; it was still in its cellophane. I was going to pick it up to read the box but was told not to touch any item. I had to point out the obvious that cellophane is still on, so it hasn't been opened yet, and just say there's a good chance there's a deck of cards among the components. I guess TSA doesn't like decks of cards or boardgames, too dense in the scanner view I guess.

    whoever came up with the phrase 'less is more' was definitely with TSA in mind. will fly for the first time in a couple of months and my goal is to travel as lightly as i can
