On June 28th, this Turkish Airlines 777-300ER diverted to Calgary while en route from Istanbul to San Francisco.
Although Turkish does serve three Canadian destinations, those being Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, they are not an airline you’d ever expect to see in Calgary. This might be one of the first times they’ve been here.
Unfortunately the diversion was due to a medical emergency on board, so I do hope everybody’s alright. Hope you enjoy this rare visitor.

Bro I got here 6 seconds after this was posted how
Got here second I guess
What incredible video, Alex! I spot at an airport that receives Turkish Airlines daily and i’ve never gotten footage has good as you got!
Good catch
That would’ve been amazing to see here those engines at 2:35
Any video with a 777 gets an instant thumbs up. My favorite aircraft!
how long was the diversion? in situations like this is the protocol to have the crew spend the night, get rested then re-board the plane with the passengers next day to complete the journey?
Great catch!
Why would a flight to San Francisco pass over/near Calgary? I would expect that Victoria or Seattle-Tacoma would be much closer to the flight path.
Once back in 2013, I believe on a flight from New York (USA) to São Paulo (Brasil), someone started to feel very bad in the middle of the sea. I was sitting at the emergency exit and there was a large space in front of it where the flight attendant could seat so they laid the passenger on the floor right in front of me and called a doctor to see what could be done (it was a 767-300ER from Delta). From what I heard the flight attendants were discussing how severe it was and if the plane should divert, luckily from what I heard it was just a panic attack of some sort and wasn't anything serious like a heart attack, the doctor manage to calm him down and the flight proceed to Brazil without an emergency stop. This was the closest I have been to an emergency landing, but I did experience my share of aborted takeoffs, landings and airport diversions due to weather.
What a beauty!
If YYC did not exist, I'd imagine the flight crew may have picked Great Falls as a diversion airport.
In a case of a medical emergency, I wonder how the whole customs/immigration process works as that passenger didn't expect to stop in Canada. Like would CBSA come to the plane and make sure they're admissible? Further to that, what would happen if they weren't admissible to Canada? Would the CBSA escort them to the hospital and stay with them?
Beautiful capturing of TK777❤
I was on this flight. Unfortunately we lost a passenger during the flight.
Where do u plane spot in Calgary?
Awesome video Alex. Like that you maintained your respect.
I do find that some people are weird about diversions. There's a bit of insensitivity almost due to how excited they are to see the aircraft.
Maybe I'm overreacting but that's how I feel. Like I once saw a post about a rare diversion to Dublin, and the passenger experienced a heart attack. The poster just seemed to be interested in the aircraft, followed by a #heartattack…
Another case was when a passenger unfortunately died on a diversion to SNN and people just seemed to be interested in the fact that a 764 had touched down, all trying to get their shots despite the fact that someone's dead family member was technically in the shot.
Perhaps my reaction is a bit hyperbolic but if it was a member of my family – I'd ask them to have some respect.
Have a good one!
Nice pan, as always!
Cool stuff. Here in Edmonton we had a EgyptAir 77W land on Wednesday. Refugee flight.
Great video alex! Glad you could catch this
The 787 looks tiny next to the 777
Alex must live within five minutes of the Calgary airport.
Ah good, you did catch it.
I was on this flight! Unfortunately the person died while we were in the ground😢
