There is so much to love about Siem Reap. From it’s lush greenery, long river boardwalk stretching through the center of the city, amazing international restaurants and an abundance of historical sites to visit, it really has something for everyone. Join me and my Dad as we explore this beautiful city beyond its main association of the stunning temple of Angkor Wat (that will be its own video). Hope you enjoy this video and make your own visit sometime soon! xx

The travel health insurance I use – PassportCard Nomads: https://www.passportcardnomads.com/?ref=alinamcleod

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don’t have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they’re especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

  1. Wow, this video really opened my eyes to the potential of Siem Reap as a digital nomad hub! The blend of culture, history, and modern amenities make it such an attractive destination. Can't wait to explore Southeast Asia and potentially make Siem Reap my base. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  2. The name "Siem Reap" comes from the Khmer language and is derived from two words: "siem" meaning "Thais" and "reap" meaning "defeat," referring to the ancient conflict between the Khmer Empire and the neighboring Thai Kingdoms. The name is said to commemorate the victory of the Khmer King Ang Chan over the Thai forces in the 16th century.

  3. I have never felt as safe as I have in Siem Reap and I’ve travelled for 45 years. The people are kind and happy even though they have very little. This is the direct opposite to Thailand where everyone has their head buried in their phone and scowl if they have to look up at you. They’ve sold out to the Russians and I for one will never visit that awful country again.

  4. Thanks you. For sharing the video. It very nice that father and Daughter go to explore vacation .cambodian is my lovely country .please take your time enjoying with your dad.

  5. Your kind words and knowledge of cambodia,s history deserves my subscription, the way you treat your father tells me you are a very loving and thoughtful daughter, thank you for visiting my country👍

  6. I love Siem Reap too (or at least I used to in the old days about 8-10 years ago) but some of these channels are literally just happy talking up a lot of places that have turned pretty dark in some ways. If you walk outside the center Pub Street area where sometimes strange people follow you around talking nonsense (probably scammers) now the riverside is littered with young male junkies sleeping on benches who will stare at you or stand in your way in threatening ways. Years ago, there were families and couples along the riverside and it used to be really enjoyable and relaxed at night beyond the center area where you could stay up all night and walk around without any problems. Now if you're walking around past 9-10 pm outside the center area strange people on motorbikes with unknown intentions might follow you around and there's no one else on the street. Also, the tuk tuk drivers will block almost all of the sidewalks in the center of the city and rudely and aggressively accost tourists to take a tuk tuk (then act nasty and make rude comments when you don't). Happy talking up countries doesn't do anyone any good. Then there's the gays and ladyboys that are constantly staring at and harassing Western foreigner men who aren't with a girlfriend or wife (robotically believing every foreigner to be homosexual or wanting to be). Southeast Asia has changed and not for the better (almost to the point of not being worth going back to anymore) but let's at least be honest with people.

  7. My wife and I were there around the same time as you. I noticed how much quieter it was compared to the last time we were there, such a wonderful place and they REALLY need the tourists back. I would recommend it to anyone!

  8. Thank you for a wonderful and accurate description of my current hometown. Siem Reap is where I have retired and it is just as you have depicted. I love Cambodia and Siem Reap is one of its best cities.
