85mm is really underappreciated for street photography. I love shooting 28mm as well, but being able to step a bit back from the scene offers some unique opportunities: isolating the subject more, being less of a disturbance to the scene, and more freedom to play with depth of field immediately come to mind. When I was in Asakusa on vacation a few weeks ago I actually played around a bit with the 50-140 so I kind of took the idea to the extreme!
Another place idea I found to be a fun challenge was taking an ultrawide zoom (10-24 f4) to the western part of Shinjuku around the Metropolitan Government and other nearby sky scrapers. It was a very sunny afternoon so their was a wonderful contrast between light and shadow. Plus, it was a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy, so it presented a great opportunity to isolate people along the broad avenues and walkways among these massive buildings. Of course the area is also wonderful for more of an architecture focus as well!
