The Sydney Tramway Museum located about an hour South of Sydney, at Loftus. I went along to check out the museum just over 20 years since my last visit to ride some trams, check out the museum and see what’s changed! We cover in this video what there is to do and see at the museum as well as how to get there and my thoughts on the venue! So come along and check out The Sydney Tramway Museum.

The Variotram is usually out at the tram festival it usually lives in a non public open shed 🙂 Sometimes if you are lucky they let you take a peek 🙂
Sad you didn’t see Z2.111 there (my favourite tram in that museum) but still a great video!!
I last went to the Sydney museum in 2009 and it is a place I would love to go back to. The collection and facilities are phenomenal!
Nice video Will. Looks like a great museum would love to visit one day. – Nicholas.
1:05 someone is excited
FS ha ha ha ha you mean FM –
Loved the use of old and new footage on this one. Excellent.
Wonderful video
Why are you in Sydney?
I lived in Sydney for 42 years, and never went there….the things you miss hey. I do intend to get up there and visit – just not sure when that will be. Another great video Will!!
I've had a few visits there already. four in all, the last visit was in 2019(pre-Covid) where I also shot a video of the tramway ride from Dulwych Hill back to Central Station.
You haven't changed a bit %~)) Fantastic! TFP
wonderful video
I should visit one day!
Nice vid
Great work as usual!
I think I visited the museum in 2011 while I was living in Sydney. They had a Sydney O class tram and a tram from Japan (Nagasaki) running on the day. I was also very lucky in that one of the volunteers offered to show me through the non-public areas. I got to see the entire collection
Will, yet another great trip report. The Museum looks really interesting, and I will plan a trip.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers, and stay safe Michael
Great coverage and great memories. I've lost count how many times I've been to the place in my younger days and it's good to see it's still going strong, though the YMCA facia transplant turned out to be a bit if a white elephant. Even getting stuck at the level crossing was worth it.
How long was the tram ride roughly?
Although a fair bit smaller, Brisbane has its own tramway museum at Ferny Grove. Yes it’s a large distance from you but if you’re in Brisbane it’s a grand way to spend your Sunday afternoon.
How long should you plan for a visit.
Amazing video! I'd love to see your 2002 footage in full, especially that shot of the V set at Sutherland.
nice video. Btw loftus is still in sydney. and part of the sutherland shire. I have gone there many times as i live in miranda wich is about a 15 minute drive from it.
