We tried to optimize our route while using the 7 Day Japan JR Rail Pass to travel throughout Japan with kids. We started in Kyoto and ended at Minami Chitose Station in Hokkaido, stopping along the way at Kanazawa, Nagoya and Aomori. ⬇️

In Kanazawa we visited Kenroku-en Garden and the D.T. Suzuki Museum. We also rented a car and took a day trip to Ainokura and Shirakawa-go. You can watch our separate video on those beautiful traditional villages.

In Nagoya we visited the castle grounds, Oasis Mall, Satsuki and Mei’s House from the movie “My Neighbor Totoro”, and the SCMAGLEV & Railway Park museum.

We only spent one night in Aomori to break up the long train ride to our final destination in Hokkaido- Minami Chitose Station. That’s where we are renting an RV to go camping in Hokkaido!

  4. Why the large courtyard of shallow water at the museum? Is it just to look at, or would people have that at their homes to wade and splash?
I liked the wheel-shape demo at the train museum; I would have liked to see the other shapes roll.

  5. We loved their coffee at the vending machines. Did you guys use the luggage delivery system in Japan? We did and it was a life saver. Specially with little ones.
