Arriving in Tokyo, it could be daunting to figure where to go have dinner because there are so may good places to choose from. But, having visiting many buffets in the US and Vietnam, it would be nice to see how the buffets in Japan compare. Thanks to a good friend and colleague, Yukiko, who suggested I visit Japan’s first buffet established in the 1950’s at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

It was pricey coming in at $115 USD but that was somewhat expected given the Tokyo area and the fine dining atmosphere. I’ve heard their meats and roasts were the star of the show and that certainly didn’t disappoint! But what really stole the show was a simple dish with egg and rice.. that wonderful Omelette Rice (Omurice) was a pleasant and tasty surprise! And or course there were the theatrics of flambé desserts and the live stations. Thank you so much for joining me!

  1. This buffet didn't impress me as much as the others you've shown lately. For that price point I would expect a bigger selection of seafood and meat. What you did show was quality though.

  2. Nice overpriced tourist buffet! At ¥16,500 The Imperial doesn't draw the locals for this type of food! I was first at the imperial in 1970!

  3. Have never seen a buffet that dead. Not sure what everyone is looking at to say it merits the price point. Smoked salmon, prosciutto, egg rice, pea soup, pasta, fried shrimp…. it's more like a continental breakfast buffet.

  4. For that price I would expect to see a lot of premium ingredients – seems very overpriced

  5. They do western style buffets better than the west lol. Looks more tasty, healthier and just overall better than your typical Vegas buffet. I like the small cuts and portions of dishes so you don’t bored of eating the same thing and waste the food.

  6. A HUGE thank to that good friend colleague who recommended such an expensive boring buffet…. Nothing catches my eyes from appetizers to desserts….

  7. did you book out the buffet for yourself? why is it so empty… the buffets ive gone to is always packed in sydney

  8. Tim – I want to see you try the many buffets found in Korea. They are legendary for the great seafood.

  9. Tim – I hope you tried the many other food choices while in Tokyo. I really enjoyed my time in Japan.

  10. I bet you were glad you were out of that humid weather in Vietnam. Nothing like taking 5 showers a day due to the weather!

  11. How hard is it to learn the basic greetings of the country one is visiting? Irony of an Aidan guy speaking English in an Asian country. Be more respectful when you visit another county and learn some basics.

  12. Do you forgot already that when you talk a big amount of your saliva fly away, we learned this very clearly during the pandemic times . So the people after you are going to enjoy a gourmet full of your saliva 😂

  13. Why do Youtube food vlogger's dress like a homeless person to review high end food establishments. I'm surprised they even let you in the door.

  14. Classic Tokyo experience … jet lagged and trying to kill time before check-in. Watching a movie is dangerous as you discovered. An all-you-can-eat buffet is a great alternative; however, you have to take a long zombie-like walk afterwards in order to stay awake. Don't be tempted by the chairs in the hotel lobby. Try to avoid drinking too much coffee or else you will just lay in bed trying to get sleep. All seasoned visitors to Japan have recommendations / stories about how to survive the first day's jet-lag and 3 pm hotel check-in's. View it as a hazing.

  15. hi the quantity is small, but fency and $$$, thank god it is a buffet, you eat more till you are fill

  16. Food looked wonderful, especially the beef and desserts. This must be their Western (European) buffet with Western (European) fare.

  17. Hi Tim how are you!!! I hope you don't make us pay to comment. Like some other channels make us I love your content 💗

  18. Sadly, an epic fail.
Many new visitors of this or any food Vlog channel are more interested in seeing a wide, slow, camera pan sweep of the beautiful hotel lobbies of the world, especially that of the Imperial Hotel, than watching 90% of a channel host feeding their face ! Try instead to focus on the different buffet setups, as well as the variety of menu offerings. I’m not understanding why most like to explain the taste of the usual menu items, most that we already know, rather than pointing out the uniqueness and intricacies of the different food item displays. Was there any particular item that was a highlight of the imperial hotel, a specialty, a regional popular dish, etc.
Realize we all know what roast beef tastes like or salmon or etc. etc. SMH

  19. What a lovely buffet. I love the small portions to help eliminate waste. The food looks absolutely delicious!

  20. I’m a 64 year old shut-in watching your vlog and I swear I think I can taste every bite! Thanks for the cool review
