  1. Great ideas ❤ I know thats very hard to let go of an object that holds memories ! I think in my case I'm afraid if my goes i can look at something and remember 😊 But I'm old we think about weird things like that 😊 Safe Travels ❤️🤍💙🙏🏻

  2. So I am in the Nathan camp of relationship to stuff. Here is a very strong value I have that keeps the flow of stuff moving through my life. I literally hate the idea of all the resources of the earth that went into the creation of a material object just sitting in storage not being used. If we as a culture decide to take from the earth to create an object, then I want to know that it is being used and valued by another human being on the planet. I literally can feel the energy of that flow when I move an object back into the cycle of life. Hope that helps in some way.

  3. This is a fantastic idea!!!! I am going to see if I can get my family to participate in this challenge. If they don’t want to participate then I will challenge myself. Great video!!!

  4. I got a laugh out of the pink boots. because the whole conversation on them bringing back memories sounded like me and my wife discusiing basically the same thing with each other. We are going to commit to doing this twice a year.

  5. I’m 62 years old, and I still have, on my fireplace mantle, a toy fire engine. It was the last toy car my mom ever bought for me when I was a child. So it has traveled with me cross country and back through many different homes I’ve had. It stays where it is.
But think of the gas mileage you’ll gain with all that stuff out of your RV! 😁

  6. my house has a bag of stuff to be given away all the time. it currently has clothes, a pillow, a book, & a cookbook in it. it'll get a little fuller than that before i'll send it out for pick up by the Diabetes society

  7. My Mama always said, "people will spend what they make and fill up what they live in". Lots of truth there if you never do things on purpose. You guys work on things with purpose and I admire that.

  8. Marissa, they have these hooks now that go over one hanger and have a hook to hang another hanger on it. Repeat and repeat and repeat. More closet space

  9. Very good advice… funny how we can be so different when approaching memories. My husband is like you Marissa…i am team Nathan hahaha. Thank you for giving us this point of view, help us understand each other’s feelings.

  10. Helpful video my mother recently passed away & we are in the process of emptying her house so many memories but i know i can't keep everything because as we get older we have to downsize
so our kids won't have to clean out our stuff.🙂🇨🇦❤

  11. Good work y'all! my biggest downfall is this, I might need that someday. My biggest regrets are valuable family things that really meant a lot to me that I let someone talk me into taking to goodwill.

  12. We are downsizing our home and have been purging so much stuff! I am enjoying the process, but some rooms and closets are more difficult than others. My grandchildren (who I only get to see once or twice a year) had fun playing with several toys that their mother played with. Yes, I have kept toys (and books) for 45 years! So going from 3,000 sq ft to 2100 sf has forced me to make some hard choices! I feel your pain Marissa! We don't live in our RV and I don't know how on earth you get down to the bare bones!, but I am totally impressed with you both! Love you guys and your channel!

  13. How many days of outfits do women really need?
Marisa, were each pair of shoes you have; one a day and see if you need that many shoes.

  14. You're so funny guys, my husband would just get rid of it all not a minutes thought. Myself on the other hand like Marissa alot of thoughts go into it 😂😅.❤🇬🇧

  15. Such a timely message for me I literally just spent 2 days clearing out an ocean of junk from my garage. Couldn’t even walk into it. Now it’s usable again. I love to declutter but I get Marissa and needing to come back to something. Having a place to put stuff you are using is so helpful.

  16. Did you hopefully weigh each time you built up a stack. Love to know how much weight you eliminated

  17. Letting go is hard. I moved out of my house. I gave so much to a church that helps homeless and low income. Made me feel great.

  18. Lol! That was so cute when you translated what she said.
It honestly helped, because I totally thought she said "feel" instead of "fill".
Both could have made good sense. I can both feel and fill the space I have and that affects what and how much I put in that space.

  19. I live in an apartment and have been getting rid of clothes recently, things I keep that have worn once or not at all have decided right don't wear get rid it's liberating, now time to sort out other items in my apartment

  20. I totally get down sizing, and not having all the stuff you don't use. My husband is what I call a pack rat. He doesn't get rid of stuff. Example, he replaces the wiper blades on the truck. He keeps the old blades. Places them behind the back seat just in case one of the new blades breaks, or falls off. Think about doing this to every thing you replace. OMG!!!! Now, I deliberately make 3 piles. A his pile, her pile, and kids pile. Everyone goes through their pile, and creates a garbage pile, donate pile, and a sale pile. I've found my husband will put maybe 2 or three 3 items in his pile. That's when I go back, and NICELY ask him about things he's keeping. Eventually my husband realizes he doesn't need every thing. Now it may take 15 years…..LOL

  21. My wife likes to hold on to stuff. She has recently started reducing the amount of stuff we have as we prepare to go out on our own trip around the U.S. I have been like Nathan, easy to get rid of stuff. As we whittle down our stuff it surprises me how little we need. And how much we need of the little we keep.

  22. Nathan, I know you're trying to be honest but once in a while you just have to tell a little white lie about connecting the pink boots to the memory. For Marissa, thanks for completing the circle on the pink boots, I've wondered what happened there for a while now.

  23. I know the feeling. My wife loves to fill every closet with tubs. I tell my wife to downsize but she does not want to get rid of anything

  24. Congrats On 8 Yrs. 👍💝
    4 Seasons = 4 Down-Sizes… U have too much room, that's Y U hoard, 4 for so long [out of site = out of mind]. 1 in 2 out.
    Men & Women = Mars & Venus: Women R the emotional 1/2, Men R the rational 1/2.

  25. I'm a lot older than you but the biggest things I can't get rid of is photographs, today we have digital everything but my mother used to take photos of the family on a 35mm camera and then send them of to be developed, my granddaughter will have these to show my great granddaughter the family she never knew.🇬🇧🇬🇧

  26. Thanks for sharing this kind of video. I agree it is easy to hold onto the things of sentimental value but, then it does add up. I am slowly going through some things in the one room in the place that is a bit of a mess. I have finally went through the Greeting cards and took several stacks to a Little Library. I just feel like one step at a time.

  27. This is awesome! After watching this my daughter and I are going to make July our Less Junk Month! Wish us luck and strength. My daughter is more like Nathan, but I'm definitely like Marissa.

  28. We have a rule 1 thing in 2 things out. I bought a shirt and my husband asked what I got rid of I told him I got rid of 2 of his shirts. He did not say who's item needed to got,,,so I got rid of his,,,LOL Maryann

  29. My new year's resolution this year was to get rid of 10 things a week for the whole year. So far still holding strong! I have been seeing things in a different light and am very intentional about what comes into my house.

  30. I watched a bunch of “y’all’s” videos over the weekend. You guys are wonderful and such a lovely family. Truly inspiring. Thank you. 🙏🏻❤️

  31. I’ve downsized many times myself and I understand why you sometimes have a hard time and after a while I’m just ready to get ride of it. It’s hard but a weight is lifted off your shoulders too.

  32. OMG, my wife would freak if she had to do this challenge LOL… Today, I just moved 6 chairs from our breakfast table out to the RV garage…cause she bought 6 new ones… for a yet to be determined "garage sale" that may be 6 months, 12 months or 18 months from now?!? if it was me, I would have ran them down to the battered woman's shelter or worse case Goodwill… Loved this video!
