Japan is an incredible place to visit, and the big cities and tourist destinations are pretty friendly for English speakers. Even so, there are plenty of things I wish I’d known before heading over on my first trip to Japan, so I’ve put together 10 tips that you really need to know before you go.

These tips will help make public transport a breeze, let you dodge currency conversion fees, give you the lowdown on IC cards like SUICA and Pasmo, introduce the glory of the Japanese convenience store (aka conbini), hit you with tips on eating affordably, and clue you in on the many different styles of accommodation… and much more.
