Not far from Kagoshima’s Tenmonkan area, tucked away on the 4th floor of a city center building is one of Japan’s most famous “new half” (transgender) revue shows, New OdamaLEE Danshaku.

This time we join our friend Wakamatsu Reina as she explains the concept behind her pub, the preparation that goes into creating each revue show, and how to live your life as an authentic verison of yourself, regardless of societal labels and stereotypes.

  1. What a colourful bunch of characters, putting on an excellent show. Good to see.
"Don't think so hard…" – something the modern World really needs to take on board!
Thanks for sharing their story 🙂

  2. We have similar bars in Montreal, though the obvious Japanese influence really gives it a unique flavor, I'd be really interested to visit it! They're always a very fun experience in my book, even straight and cis people end up with a smile on their face after a visit (as long as they can keep an open mind)

I wish a very long life on this establishment! ❤

  3. Wow, Kagoshima has more going on than I realized but I was only there for three days and one of those days I was driving down to Cape Sata. The show reminds me of Portland since we have the longest-running drag show on the West Coast at Darcelle's.

  4. Some cosmetics companies need to send PR kits here. They're such a delightful group of people; from what I've seen, this is such a wonderful and safe place to be.
I'd be interested in visiting, if I ever get my dream trip to Japan; my Son promised to take me, then the pandemic hit. Of course I'd like to see some of the touristy type things, but I mostly want unique experiences.
My heart is saddened by the fact that people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community but cannot be their authentic selves, have the need to hide it. We all need to be accepting of people, whatever "umbrella" term they fall under. I grew up with many trans and queer folx as friends in the 1980's and have always been there to support them and uplift them.
I really want to visit here with my Son. Such an incredible amount of joy is contained here! Sending you my love and best wishes, from Canada 🇨🇦 💖 Thanks for sharing this!
    I'll be subscribing

  5. That's so cool, I wish I had visited there when I was living nearby Kagoshima! Hopefully I can visit again soon 🖤
