😕 On March 10, 1945, Tokyo was hit by an air raid that transformed the streets of Asakusa.
Most of the Senso-ji Temple, which had been the center of the area, was destroyed by fire.
😍The rebuilding of the main hall and other buildings gave joy and hope to the local believers and brought them closer together.
😌 The temple dances were established on this occasion, and local volunteers perform the dances for the visitors to the temple on the anniversary of the temple’s founding.
🤩 Shirasagi-no-Mai was started in 1968 as an event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji Era, and is a revival of the “Egret Dance” depicted in the “Sensoji Engi.
🤗 The origin of the Shirasagi-no-Mai is believed to be Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, and the Sensoji temple dance is performed by the temple dance preservation society based on the heron dance. Dancers dressed in egret costumes dance, and warriors, stick dancers, bait throwers, musicians, guardian children, and others parade around the temple.
