This is our last Indonesia Travel Vlog from Sumatra! After this we will head to Bandung and start our travels across Java Island! 😍 Today we decided to rent a motorbike instead of taking public transportation as we wanted to drive an hour south of Berastagi to Lake Toba while making some stops on the way. I think this was the most expensive motorbike we rented in our 2 years in SouthEast Asia, but the lady in charge of our homestay said it’s a normal price in Berastagi as it’s the only place to rent motorbikes from! (we paid 150,000 Rp ($10 USD) for the one day).
We started by driving from Berastagi to Lingga Cultural Village as it isn’t far from Berastagi. It was a little confusing to find the actual cultural village, however we finally ran into a little tourist building with a lovely man who gave us a tour! He told us they only have 2 of the big traditional houses, but we were able to go into one of them and he explained everything and showed us around. He also told us a story of how they would find girlfriends by playing flutes outside of their houses. As the tour was free, we decided to buy one of the flutes as a donation (Carles needs some practice 😜). We also wanted to stop by the Museum Karo Lingga, however it was closed!
We continued to drive from Lingga toward Lake Toba….however it wasn’t long before we got a flat tire!!! Our first flat tire ever when renting a motorbike! We couldn’t find anywhere on google maps to take the bike, however a man told us to keep going down the road (and we got lots of encouragement from people riving by 🤣) telling us to keep going and that a shop was only 5 minutes away. Luckily we reached the motorbike shop. The guys were able to fix our tire SO quickly – we were amazed!!! And the best part was they didn’t even try to charge us extra. It was so affordable to fix the tire quickly and continue on our way! Eventually we made it to Sipiso Piso Waterfall – one of the highest waterfalls in Indonesia! It’s a really impressive waterfall and so close to Lake Toba! You can actually see Lake Toba while you climb down to the waterfall! The parking lot for Sipiso Piso Waterfall is at the top of the waterfall….you then have to climb down sooo many stairs to reach the bottom! (We were told it’s 1,200 stairs, although it didn’t feel like that many).
We actually didn’t go the entire way to the bottom as the spray at the bottom of the waterfall is so strong!!! All of the people who went down to the very bottom were soaking wet!
Once we reached the top again, it started to pour rain! Luckily we were able to duck into a restaurant to avoid the rain and have some of the best Indonesian food yet! We tried ifu mie goreng for the first time and of course our favorite, nasi goreng. It was such a good meal and the rain stopped by the end! To make it even better, a man took our motorbike helmets inside when it was pouring so they weren’t super wet when we got back ( Indonesians are seriously SO NICE!!!). We drove back to Berastagi without anymore issues with our motorbike, however we weren’t able to drive the whole way to Lake Toba like we wanted to. It was still another great day in North Sumatra!

  3. Sayang sekali, kenapa langsung pulang? Dari gerbang belok kiri itu bisa turun ke pinggir danau toba namanya tongging. Sedangkan belok kanan ada puncak gajah bobok dari atas bisa lihat danau toba dengan jelas.

  4. Honest reviews, under budget recommendation trip, cute romanticism, great place choices, such a great contents. Just get ready to be famous both of you. Indonesian are just love to see foreigner that explores and documenting their trip in indonesia. Can't wait for the whole adventures.

  6. Inspiring video as usual. Thank you Natalie and Carles for sharing this journey.

Anyway… if you are still in Indonesia, maybe someday you can try to visit Kalimantan. Indonesia has its own Maldives Island there. It's name is Maratua Island (in Derawan Islands), Berau, East Kalimantan. You will not only stay overnight and heal with the beautiful view of the beach there, but you will also have your own beach right behind your inn! You can snorkel, feed the fish, even fishing on the public dock. Not far from there, you can also spend your time to see the turtle breeding grounds on Sangalaki Island, and if you're lucky you can also release the turtles into the sea. You can also swim with rare Jellyfish on Kakaban Island, and try diving in a lake whose vibes are like the entrance to the world of Avatar, it's called Halo Tabung Lake. This lake is hidden in the middle of a dense forest. Maratua Island is still natural, even if you walk along the village streets you will still meet Monkeys, Snakes, and Monitor Lizards. Even Crabs also crawl along the land or on the beach sand. And what is certain is that the people are friendly, you can feel comfortable interacting with them. And the most important part is that place is still not too crowded by foreign tourists.
I'd say it's a slightly expensive (exclusive) trip, but it's well worth the experience and adventure you'll have there. It will be an unforgettable experience.

However, stay safe and healthy wherever you go guys… May God always guide and bless both of you.

  7. Amazing view of the waterfall area.. love it and nice to know you enjoy your journey there ☕👍😁
Thank you for your share 🙏❤️

  8. Thank you for your video documentation about Sipiso-piso waterfall. I am waiting for the documentation of your adventures around Lake Toba.

  9. Indonesia alamnya sungguh indah tpi sayang masih banyak orng yg blm sadar untuk menjaga kebersihan krna buang sampah yg sembarangan.
Semoga sukses, sehat selalu dan bahagia.

  10. pushing the flat tire motorcycle to find nearest repair shop, while your partner is walking behind you. that is the most Indonesian thing a tourist could ever experience.
don't worry almost all of us (motorcylce rider) has the same experience 😁

  11. Mantap, Keren, Gokil, Salut sama kalian berdua yg benar² ingin eksplor negeri tercintaku ini🇮🇩♥️

  12. I remember back then when we went to this Sipiso-piso waterfall for study tour. Our teacher asked us to count the waterfall's height by using trigonometry. But due to the spray, everyone and their papers got soaked, it was chaotic 😂

Anyway what made this waterfall unique is not only because its height, but also the source. As you may realize, the water source is coming from underground river, not like those typical waterfalls 😀

  13. KEREN perjalanan kalian berdua ke Sipiso Piso Waterfall dengan motor bike. Pulau Sumatera sangat luas dan Danau Toba adalah salah-satu danau terbesar di dunia akibat vulkano. So so…Curious what will be your next trips to explore best beaches in the far west of Indonesia: Aceh, Nias, Mentawai, Bintan, Batam

  14. that's not a bees nest
i believe it belongs to a species of giant hornet
you did the right thing to keep your distance away from it

  15. haha thats not "itu mie goreng" "itu" means = that, and the name just mie goreng, but use different noodle 😁, can't wait to next upload, and then good with long duration

  16. Indonesia indah tapi sayang watganya ga sadar akan lingkungan banyak sampah di mana2, seperti negara india

  17. To another foreigner who wants to come to Indonesia please don't just go to Bali, Lombok, or Jakarta, you guys can go to another part of Indonesia like go to Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, Maluku… because Indonesia is not about Bali that offer the beautiful nature, another places in Indonesia also has beautiful nature even more beautiful than Bali actually.. Thanks Natalie & Carlos for exploring our country, I hope you guys can explore more Indonesia like Kristian Hansen did one day 😊 Enjoy your time in Spain right now by the way

  18. Your journey will be a sweet memory when u visit indonesia with motor bike and also try indonesian street food in (warung) we call it,good taste and good people too

  19. From the "Taman Mini Indonesia Indah" ( Park of the Miniature Beautiful Indonesia) in Jakarta, to Toba Lake in North Sumatera. WoW! What a wonderful journey ! Enjoy tropical Indonesia , guys! Thanks a lot to Nat & Carl for sharing this interesting travel vlog from North Sumatera. Much love from West Java.

  20. it's so fun to watching both of you traveling around, idk, it's kinda fulfill my dream through the eyes.. i really want to travel around with someone i love, sharing all the moments together, just like pushing a motobike with a flat tire to that workshop, not a fun experience tho, but still not every couple has that kind of experience's right? ❤
