At the beginning of 2019, we learned from Japanese news that the famous Natural Wonder “Ice Monster” on the Mount Zao of Yamagata Prefecture in Tohoku during the snow season may disappear in a period of time due to insect infection.
Thus our visiting plan in early 2020 was arranged immediately, however the outbreak of the century pandemic forced us to delay it without a choice.
Anticipated for 3 years, we finally set foot on the land of Tohoku Japan in early 2023. In addition, it was our first time to experience snow driving hence our excitement was really indescribable!
The Mount Zao is also a famous ski resort, and the hotel rooms are often fully booked during the snow season. We made reservation 3 months in advance to ensure that we could stay in our favorite onsen hotel.
The Takamiya Group is the largest hotel group in Mount Zao. They have ryokans with various styles in different locations. This time we chose Miyamaso which is the oldest one.
This traditional Japanese style ryokan with a history of more than 300 years, and a hot spring with a near-perfect rating in Jalan, so it was decided without a doubt!
