What are the best things to do in Kyoto with kids? Our adventure takes us to Arashiyama where we’ll be exploring the Kyoto Monkey Park and Bamboo Forest (aka Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Iwatayama Monkey Park 嵐山モンキーパーク) on the western edge of Kyoto on Arashiyama. Trust us when we say this: It. Is. Gorgeous. And it is an adventure.
The Bamboo Grove is a natural forest of bamboo. It’s incredibly serene when it’s just you. And super crowded at times. Fun fact: it’s considered part of the “Soundscape” of Japan. And the monkey park? Be prepared for a climb! But once you’re at the top of the mountain, you can chill with over 170 wild monkeys. Don’t worry – they’re not in cages. Actually, you get to go in a cage yourself to feed them.
If you’re in Kyoto for any length of time, you HAVE to visit. And we don’t say that about many places 🙂
