Join us on a tour of this 154 year old #emptyhouse in rural Japan! We inspect this beautiful old #kominka Meiji period house in #shimane, #Japan and fall in love.

The house is in Shimane prefecture and we were so surprised by the natural beaty of the area and the number of outdoor activities and sights that are only a short drive from the beautiful valley where it is located. It is both a #kominka (old folk house) and an #akiya (empty house) and was a boutique sake brewery in it’s former life. The owners made sake from the well that still exists in the front garden.

The owner has now accepted our offer to purchase and we are beyond excited to start sharing our real estate journey with you and show you what life is like in rural Japan, a little off the beaten path.

Please join us, starting with this tour of our beautiful #kominka with the real estate agent and #akiyabank representative. In our next video we will share the purchase process, as non-residents, only on tourist visas.

Thanks for watching!

  1. How exciting. It is just beautiful and full of Japanese charm. I can see how you would fall in love with renovating this historic property. 🙂 ⛩

  2. Interesting. It is ok atmosphere-wise. It is old, so there is that "heavy" air there (not breezy or happy or uplifting). Not really negative either. Maybe the atmosphere can be lifted with renovations, maybe not. It is in good condition so it is nice, but if I were there (after looking around), I feel like asking: Do you have a better one?

  3. Can I ask something, did you speak fluently in Japaese?
what I heard if bought the house by all cash it would be big bargaining, is there any tips to bring that lit amount of money into Japan?

  4. Looks great but the way that you are navigating the stairs should give you serious pause… just saying. The way the real estate folks were watching you come down should give you MAJOR hints.

  5. The exposed wood beams all throughout the property and the sheer amount of natural light is amazing

  6. if i were ever to manage moving to japan, it would be into a home like this. big garden, traditional style, country-side… what more could you want?

  7. Хоть не люблю деревянные дома из-за высокого риска пожара,но,в таком бы пожила.Только не одна😅
Чувсовуется,что за этим домом хорошо следили и так относительно сейсмоустойчиво и нет угрозы подтопления.Так?

  8. I would need a full structural survey done, I noticed a few dodgy bits of woodwork. An estimate to double-glaze all those windows would be most intimidating.

  9. Better and wiser in the Philippines, some big real estate developers are taking land, building new houses in uniform or villages with shopping malls, and making better-surrounding people. Old houses like that, with no charm and durability, should be a dump immediately with a bulldozer. Japan should think better than underdeveloped countries because the government has money to make a better place for the Japanese and avoid often giving donations like in the Philippines, where only Politicians get rich and take your donation.
