Today I want to show you an absolute street food hero in Bangkok’s chinatown. Jae Wan has been out selling her epic Moo Ping (pork skewers) in the same spot for 33 years.

Now moo ping are everywhere in Bangkok and as much as I love them, they are all pretty similar usually. Jae Wan’s are a step up with tender chucks of pork shoulder, punctuated with fat to keep them moist and grilled low and slow over Mangrove charcoal. These are up there with some of the best moo ping I’ve had in Bangkok and I’ve had a LOT!

At 13 baht per skewer these are well under a dollar, or pound in my case!

Next up I headed (unsuccessfully) to Kha Moo Sai Tua and even though I didn’t film there, I would highly recommend you go there to try their epic pork leg stew.

Lastly I headed for a coffee and ice cream at one of my favourite spots, Jing Jing Ice Cream Bar:

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

  1. Unfortunately 24h late 😅 been in Chinatown yesterday. But Jacks Chicken Rice has been a good alternative for today.

  2. That's my idea of street food. Sitting on a fire hydrant eating marinated pork skewers grilled over mangrove charcoal. Don't know how you managed to keep your shirt without a drop of fat and grease and marinade. I need to look at the map for that ice cream/coffee bar on Charoen Krung; I'm pretty sure the old Peace Corps hostel/hotel was on or near that alley/street back in the late '60s.

  3. Gary is the master here, I'm Thai and I can confirm that tourist area of Yoawarat (China town) is good for photo, VLOG but if you want the real good food avoid that area, go to local area like Gary did.

  4. ทำคลิปต่อไปนะ …จะเป็นกำลังใจตลอดค่ะ and say hi to ur wife and son…

  5. หาของกินไปเรื่อยเลยคุณแกรี่ 👍😁

  6. I am surprised I thought you can just speak Thai but didn't realise you can also read.

  7. It's my home town. This lady make this herself. If you find the more flat version of this moo ping mostly it's preprep from factory.
