Cathay Pacific is one of the hardest hit airlines by the pandemic……but the recovery of Cathay isn’t smooth. The airline was hit hard by a discrimination incident against mainland Chinese passengers recently. I will talk about the latest Cathay inflight experience and all the issues in this video.
I took my mother on a Cathay flight from Los Angeles back to Hong Kong. It was Mom’s first long-haul travel in nearly 4 years. During the flight, I discover the latest Cathay Pacific service and some cost-cutting is evidently showing. Clearly, Hong Kong and Cathay still have a long way to go on the recovery path.
On landing, I experienced a powerful go-around from the Boeing 777 due to unclear traffic on the runway. We saw Hong Kong International Airport from above and landed safely on the new third runway of Hong Kong.
During my time in Hong Kong, I went on a meaningful flight over the skies of Hong Kong. The Cathay Community Flight 2023 brought 170 underprivileged teenagers, mentors, and volunteers to experience aviation together.

Even I’m not Chinese. I will never go back to Cathy pacific .. service are horrible and they are NOT FRIENDLY.. they are looking down people who they think NOT RICH . They NEED TO BE FRIENDLY and helpful to passengers as if without passenger THEY DONT HAVE CUSTOMER AND NO WORK.
So sad and the food is mediocre. Other airlines EVA and OTHER China airlines are so nice , friendly and so accommodating no matter who you are they are not prejudice..

To eliminate jet lag, if you can sleep on the flight then you should- alternatively talk to your doctor about a prescription for something to help you sleep (just temporarily). We take two 5mg tablets of melatonin when we go to bed at night – once you get to your destination. We keep taking melatonin at bedtime for a few weeks after flying from Canada to Asia. Jet lag is always worse for us coming home from Asia.
this is not a Cathy problem, but a general problem in HK since 60, 70s,
Given HK people are also Chinese, they shares the same culture of discrimination against people of different region and dialect etc. not a HK only problem, but a problem across Chinese society.

Sam, it is true that negativity always travels fast in today's environment, especially with the aid of electronic devices. It is truly that we encounter many turbulance in life, and, we need to stand strong against the cusp of storm. The reality is we are not always getting the sunshine, we will see dark clouds, rain and storm. Know where we are defeated, is knowing where to rise from. Being an overseas HK-er, I hope CX will rise and transform from this darkest of their time to the best flagship air carrier of Asia as well as the Globe again.

What I like most about Sam is, he's totally grounded, is very humble and polite. Very knowledgeable about his surroundings and is a subject matter expert. Most of all I think he's absolutely unbiased and looks at problems in a very practical way rather than have a predetermined judgement about it. Continue your good work Sam.
I have any friends from H.K. and Malaysia! Their open dislike of mainland Chinese is an eye opener for me.

RE: Avoidding jetlag…..I don't drink booze,nor coffee.,fruit juice and bottled water is ok though,great to see your mother with you on that first flight✈👍

There is no excuse for poor customer service but this arises when service staff have countless negative encounters with mainland Chinese. Let's face the fact that when you're in the service industry and many of your interactions with a certain group are negative you will not be able to have a smile on your face all day. I think Cathay has to improve their staff training and guest experience but guests from the mainland also have to ask themselves one vital question. Am I acting in a respectful and kind manner when interacting with others?
CX should be investigated for backend support – union under the law of national security law. law enforcement.

I am a HONGKONGER and I am still don’t live people from mainland china
Just returned from Hong Kong last week. As an aviation photographer, I used to shot tons of photos when traveling Hong Kong before COVID. But last week when I passed the security check and stood at the new sky bridge, I was so shocked that HKG is so empty. Flights seems still far far away from 2017, 2019. Right now, flights in HKG recovers seems even slower the the mainland China.

I took the Cathay flight from Beijing to Tokyo via Hong Kong last April which I really think it was the most difficult time during the 3 years of the pandemic for people in Hong Kong, but the service provided by the airline was still the best and most welcoming in all of the airliners in East Asia. I also used their service several times during the Hong Kong revolution and I haven't been discriminated against as a Chinese Mainlander during that time. I hope Cathay could get over the difficulties asap.

One time I was flying from HKG to SFO. I fell asleep during meal time, upon waking up I asked for meal service and the flight attendant told me they ran out of food and the plane was landing soon.
The plane flew for three more hours. No more CX, ANA, and Korean Air for me. I forgot to mention it was a full-paying business class.
Cathay Pacific is a very racist airline. It has is roots in the British era. European and American Airlines are of course very racist. They treat Asian very badly but it’s a given because their skin colour is white whereas Asians are yellow but why Cathay Pacific is still racist with majority of passengers are Asians mainly Chinese? Of course Hong Kongers look down on mainlanders. Moreover Cathay Pacific use many Filipinas who serve the white passenger differently from Asian passengers.
ive been your fan for more than 5 years sam and I've met you in person in an emirates flight before pandemic, but i have to say this video is really disappointing. Instead of addressing the incident directly, it looks more like a whitewash to me, im not negating the fact that many CX staffs are good people, but what you are doing is simply avoiding the issue. 18 mins of video, you spent more than 15 minutes showing your two flight experience with CX, emphasizing CX is having a hard time, but what does this has to do with the incident, what the old lady want is just a blanket on a flight? What about ALL the other similar discriminative cases against non-cantonese speaker?

Sam, to avoid let lag: first test for melatonin levels. If low, take Melatonin 3mg SR (sustained release) at the time you would go to sleep at your destination while travelling. Also take 5-HTP 100 or 200mg (this, along with Vitamin B6 as P5P 10-20mg) will get the 5-HTP to convert to serotonin and serotonin will convert to melatonin when the melatonin starts to wear off. Other options include: take L-theonine after dinner and then several hundred mg's of theanine at bedtime. Theanine increases dopamine, lowers norepinephrine, and lowers glutamine (neuroexcitatory) and indirectly raises GABA. Another option is to test first for progesterone, and if low, take oral progesterone at the time you want to sleep. Dosing depends upon your level. Oral works best for sleep. it's the breakdown metabolite of progesterone that crosses the blood brain barrier that binds to the GABA receptor that will help you sleep. Hope these suggestions help. Flew with them in November and March Heathrow to Manila found them to be good in economy and premium economy. Thing i noticed recently is the flight prices have gone crazy high which would be only reason why I wouldn’t use them
