It’s a beautiful spring day in rural Japan, and I’m heading out on my bike to check out the cherry blossoms as some local temples and shrines. Along the way, I’ll be talking about the difference between Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples regarding their roles in everyday Japanese life.

Looks like you avoided all the crowds. Seems like the temples get most of the maintenance, really nice scenery in Oregon on the coast we have a lot of similar trees except the blossoms are more pink and less white although that might be due to soil pH.
Important Correction! (3:39)
The temple bells are rung on DECEMBER 31st, not January 31st as I said in the video. (New Year’s Eve is on the same day in Japan.) Sorry about that! 😓
Thanks to @Homo Sapiens for catching my mistake. 🍻
While I love exploring a bike, sometimes those uphills are horrendous haha
The bell ringing at the Buddhist temple on New Year’s Eve, shouldn’t that be on December 31st and/or January 1st (New Year’s Day) rather than January 31st? Or is a different Buddhist calendar used for this?
