The real deal about Suica sales suspension, how to get other IC cards, and how to charge up card at station machines. Must watch for first time japan visitors 😀 hope it helps.

  1. If I understand correctly, this change only affects selling new cards, am I right? Old Suica cards are still usable and only expire after 10 years when it is not being used. Am I right?

  2. You can still use old suica cards oh that's good I still got ¥1000 on my card for next time I'm in japan 😁

  3. I keep hearing about registered Suica or Pasmo but never really does anyone explain how you get one. By registered, I mean the ones that have your name printed on the card. Many places say you can get a registered card and then skip over to getting a general unregistered card or a Welcome card which is only good for 28 days. I'd really like to know how to get a Suica registered card online, especially from outside Japan so I've got it ready to use when I land.

  4. Thank you Lisa for the info. It’ll be great to see how to purchase the card at the airport. I have a Suica card but I purchased it in 2018 so not sure if I can reuse it again this year.

  5. Definitely mobile is better! Better for the planet and you don’t have to look for it every single time 😉

  6. Registered cards… does that mean as long as i write my name on it. I can get a suica card? But doesnt registered and unregistered use same chip?

  7. Thanks for the update, very helpful as i hope to visit next year for the first time. I presume you can only get the Suica in Tokyo airports and not other IC cards like Icoca, or can you get a Pasmo instead? Failing that i could get a tourist Suica.

  8. Oh no. I arrive next week and planned on getting a suica card at Tokyo station. So what physical card can I get now, that will allow refund at end of my stay??

  9. Ahh we got our cards at the same place in Osaka last month. Brought them back to Syd with us.
You must be going to Jp every other week Lisa! Lol
Btw, your zettai ryoiki is sugoi kawaii 😄

  10. Although I still have a physical card in case of emergency, I definitely prefer the version on my Apple Watch because I really don't have to pull out a wallet or phone.

  11. Hi Lisa, quick question. We will be coming to Japan in November/December and currently have both Icoca and a Suica (5 years old) which are unregistered. Can we still use these cards?
Many thanks for your informative videos

  12. I am happy to have my Suica Card. I dont like mobile phone app as I had to experience a breakdown of the app here in Hamburg / Germany – finding myself on a train without ticket. Very unpleasant experience. I now have to buy paper tickets again here at home, feels so vintage ( in a sad way)

  13. Wow this changes will really affect us traveling with family in September! Hopefully they have it back by then. Its going to be hard to register a mobile phone PASMO for the little kids since they dont have a phone yet.

  14. To make life as a tourist easy in Japan, do NOT waste your time or money on any IC card. Simply pay cash for your ticket or other purchases.
This video shows how difficult charging an IC card is: Even native Japanese, who can read instructions in Japanese, don't know where to go, or which machine to use.

  15. I prefer the physical card as well. If you can show how to purchase the Icoca card at Kansai Airport, I would greatly appreciate it.

  16. I've only used cash when I didn't use the JR pass, but always saw Suica and thought it might be good to have on a future trip. I would avoid any phone app, which would put you in a bind if something happened to the phone.

  17. Im arriving to tokyo with my family on 30th june. What do we use istead of suica? Im confused 🤔

  18. How about renting pocket wifi at the airport? 🙂 That would be super useful!

  19. I think you are the first YouTuber to report this. Lisa! If I understand correctly, I can get the Suica App on my iPhone and charge it from my iPhone. We are coming to Japan in October.

  20. Hey Lisa! I probably anticipate the answer but, Is there any way to top up your card using credit cards and/or Google/Apple pay? Thank you 🙏

  21. I was in Tokyo last week and had no problem in recharging and using my old Suica card bought in 2015

  22. I love my passmo card
That's worked in tokyo, osaka, and fukuoka 😊
But i prefer the designs of the Korean T-money cards
They have kpop and anime designs 😊❤
    Greetings from korea 🇰🇷 💕

  23. Hi Lisa,
I will be travelling to Osaka next week.
I can still buy the ICOCA Card at the airport right?

  24. this sucks, the family and I are heading to Japan in 2 weeks. So I'm unclear as to what register and unregister Suica. And what is welcome Suica card?

  25. Hi Lisa, thank you for your videos, they're great. I am also from Australia. Would you please tell me how I can find out if my Suica card is registered? I put my name on my card, does that mean it is registered? I bought mine in February when I was there and I kept it knowing I will return same time next year to go skiing again. ありがとう ございます。

  26. I will be visiting Japan for the first time on June 13 through NRT and am very sad that the cards are no longer for sale! I don’t want the Welcome to Suica card since I am staying for a while. Very unfortunate timing 😢
