For the Japanese airlines, Hawaii has been an important market. The market is served by multiple daily flights by ANA and JAL, and recently saw one of the biggest news regarding airline partnerships as the US DOT denied antitrust immunity to the joint venture of Japan Airlines and Hawaiian.

Aloha Airlines was a Star Alliance partner and inter island service for Hawaii to compete against Hawaiian but the government wouldn’t grant bankruptcy protection and allowed it to fall so now we got stuck with just one major carrier for Hawaii inter island flights and the prices have steadily increased over time and only stalled for a bit once Southwest announced they were coming to the market but as Southwest has issues with the Max planes Hawaiian is taking the benefits again. Hawaiian would be better served by joining the Alliance that JAL belongs to or Star Alliance. Korean Air enjoys the 5th freedom from Hawaii to Japan to Korea. Delta is no longer flying to Narita from Honolulu, and will only have the Haneda flight left. I hope ANA can get more Haneda routes from Hawaii because that will help with competition and ticket pricing. Hawaii is the #1 destination for Japan for many years and it continues to stay that way for at least another decade or so. ANA also got a boost from the local state government when Governor Ige budgeted state renovations for the airport for ANA to accommodate the A380 and ANA agreed to make sure the A380’s were stationed between Hawaii and Japan. Governor Ige was also at the debut launch and arrival for the A380 in Hawaii. The state government needs to do more for Honolulu airport because our airport sucks ASSSSSSSS. Also JAL has flights to KONA from Japan too and that airport is lacking. Gawd, airports in USA is ASSSSSSSSSSS. XD.
