The Chambersburg Mall is a fascinatingly dead mall, down to only an antique store as an anchor, an art gallery, and at the time of filming the AMC Theater. However, it was announced on the day of our visit (April 6, 2023) that the AMC would close in 10 days.

With the AMC closing, it’s hard to tell how this mall branded in 2009 as one of American’s most endangered malls by US News & World Report will be hanging on. We were so glad to make it out so enjoy our journey through the Chambersburg Mall in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

  1. Take a look at New Hotizon Mall in Calgary. I guarantee you'll be shocked. Plenty of videos.

  2. It makes me sad to see a giant mass of unused concrete, such a waste of space that should be available for plants and trees. And we wonder why it's getting hotter and hotter every summer.

  3. The death of malls honestly does make me sad. The malls where I'm at are of course not as derelict as this one but there's no reason to go to them anymore with all of the good and interesting stores being closed and only being left with places like JC Pennys and Spencers. Malls used to be the place to go to hang out and shop growing up in the early 00s for me. Seems like there's just less and less reason to leave your house these days.

  4. the presentation was a bit weird. Maybe you can spread the info part through out the whole video instead of just in a random little spurt in the middle of the video.

  5. I’ve I had enough money saved I would buy a mall like this and keep it for myself lol

  6. In the '80s I lost my virginity in the mall, specifically a Pearle Vision Eye Center storage room 😉

  7. Carmike Cinemas was not one of the original tenets. The theater was opened and professionally operated by Manos Enterprises until 1993.
Carmike was the 2nd operator that purchased it and ran it into the ground before AMC bought it and eventually closed it.

  8. This is f*king criminal. Corporate made us tear down towns to put these up. Then decided, well we don't wan't malls anymore. Then has us ripping out area to make strip mall stores.

  9. As a man I rarely visit malls as there is almost nothing there for men especially after sears and RadioShack departed. Now I have no reason or much desire to visit a mall except maybe to get an occasional auntie Ann’s pretzel then I leave

  10. When I was a kid, our parents would drop us off on Friday nights and we as kids would just walk around. Times were good back then.

  11. The mall has to be closing soon. The outside isn't being maintained, and I saw some buckets in the mall to catch rainwater. When management isn't repairing the roof, a mall's days are numbered. I wonder if they're still turning on the air conditioning/heat. I went to a nearly dead mall a while ago that did just that, I guess because why spend money making shoppers comfortable when there are no shoppers. It closed shortly afterward. I like the signs that say "We want you to stay and shop with us." OK. Where? Someone managing the place has a dark sense of humor. 🙂

  12. Many memories from here in the 80’s and 90’s when I was growing up. I moved to Florida after high school.

This mall was a taste of modern civilization and fun in that very rural area.

My mind still wanders back here from time to time.
