    How I met my first Japanese girlfriend: I went to her work as customer, a maid massage parlour, we got to talk, we met up a few weeks later, she staid at my place that night. How did that happen?

    Another friend I met by going to a maid cafe, where she worked. We go to like each other, I became her regular, she asked me where I work, came to my work place, gave me her phone number and we had a date on New Year's with hatsumode and cake and tea at Sky Tree City.

    Other friends I met at work at the live house, where I helped out. They are/were idols and we became friendly with each other.

    Classmates from my language school became friends.

    My furrent girlfriend/fiancee needed a roommate, I needed a place to stay.

    I don't recommend any of these ways, except the language school one. Highly recommend that one.
