The Aoi Festival is one of Kyoto’s three major annual festivals, along with
the Gion Festival and the Jidai Matsuri. It is held on May 15th each year,
and is a celebration of the two Kamo shrines in the north of the city,
Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrine.
The main event of the Aoi Festival is the grand procession, which starts
from the site of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and makes its way to the Kamo
Shrines. The procession is made up of hundreds of participants dressed
in Heian period clothing, including court nobles, soldiers, and priestesses.
The procession is led by the Imperial Messenger, who is followed by the
Saio-Dai, a young woman who in the Heian period was an imperial princess.
4年ぶりに開催された葵祭（あおいまつり）は、京都市で毎年5月15日に行われる祭りです。葵祭は、京都の代表的な祭りであり、平安時代の風俗や文化を伝える貴重な行事として知られています。また祇園祭、時代祭を含めて京都三大祭りでもあります。
葵祭の一番の見どころは、京都御所より出発し、下賀茂神社を経て、上賀茂神社へと向かう行列「路頭の儀」です。総勢500余名、馬、牛、牛車、輿1台による王朝行列が、およそ8キロの道のりを巡行します。行列は、平安時代の雅な装束を身にまとった人々で構成されており、その姿はまるで現代によみがえった平安絵巻です。また、神輿に乗る斎王は、かつて伊勢神宮や賀茂の神社に奉仕した未婚の内親王、女王のことなのです。神殿の御簾をはじめ、御所車から牛車に至るまで葵の葉で飾ったことから「葵祭」と呼ばれるようになりました。京都を代表する伝統行事の一つであり、毎年多くの観光客が訪れます。

The kimonos are so beautiful. Loved the views of the kamo shrines. Best of all was the Aoi Festival's grand procession. It was awesome! So many lovely kimonos and carriages. The Court Nobles and Priestesses were amazing in their period clothing. Thank you so much for filming this for your viewers! 👘😊
