Welp, they can’t all be winners…! But I certainly was not expecting to be working with a Disney Vacation Club Guide with supposedly 8+ years of experience who knew so little. This all around was not a fun time! So many mishaps! I definitely would not recommend the Guide I was originally assigned to, but even just the process of buying directly through Disney… why not buy on the resale market instead? Yikes.

I’ve heard feedback via social media about other disastrous DVC Guides, but I remain hopeful that is the minority!   1. Woah. Unbelievable. I know resale takes a long time and has some extra steps. But seems way more pleasant than what you went through buying direct this time around!

  2. Wow. That’s awful! I have a guide and have purchased 3 contracts with him. He is also a member and was very good about explaining and helping me through things. So sad you had this experience! Good thing you knew what to ask and a lot about DVC. I feel bad for totally new/prospective members who get these kinds of guides. Unacceptable!

  3. That sounds like a nightmare. Sorry to hear that. My guide definitely was not that bad. If she didn’t know something she’d ā€œask aroundā€ and get back to me. It seems as though DVC guide policy and procedures just aren’t there. They probably have everything together on the back end though.

    Also, yes yes yes it’s super difficult to get a new guide. My old guide from Florida left the company so I was assigned a rando. I quizzed her and found out that her knowledge of DVC was poor to nonexistent so I requested a new guide. I called in about four times with random guides to get me assigned to a new guide and they kept telling me it was done. Nope, I still had that other rando guide. Finally, I spoke to someone who was very knowledgeable and begged her to assign me to her. She said sure and ā€œadopted meā€ by sending me an email that I was reassigned.

    I will tell you a secret though. Since this is all anonymous. DVC screwed up my points, they actually gave me a lot of extra points for no good reason (I think they got confused). Their system is in shambles, I had to create a chargeback with the credit card to get my money back from my VDH cash room stay (which they resolved), because DVC didn’t know how to cancel those rooms! They said the system for VDH is very very bad. I know I may not get to keep those extra points for VDH, but they’re in there now and available for me to use (maybe there is a no clawback clause like we have in California for paycheck overpayments). This is just crazy if you ask me.

    By the way. I signed up for magical beginnings too but haven’t heard back. Hopefully, we get a check next month. šŸ¤”

  5. So sorry you had to go through this. Sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen! 😮 Hope everything works out eventually.

    Do you happen to know if there restrictions on Disneyland DVC resale similar to resale on Riviera? Ie you can only book Riviera resort and not the other resorts? šŸ™

  6. Wow! My guess is he did not have eight years experience as a guide, but was counting years some other DVC position or other Disney experience. I also bet there is a lack of expertise right now at Disney with their layoffs and hiring freezes. They clearly don't want to pay people. So yes, guys like him blather and bluster their way into the job they want. This guy is probably a narcissist too. Not uncommon. Hope MB works out in the end.

  7. Ugh gross. This is one of the reasons I haven't purchased – snake oil sales tactics! Disney should really be paying you at this point!

  9. Your experience is scary, i feel sorry for folks who don't know anything about DVC and they make their first purchase. The Guide i used before has recently retired. I wish there was a way to see ratings on guides before i select another.
