This time on Distant Shores we give you a full tour of the interior of our custom aluminum Enksail Orion 49 sailboat as she is being assembled in the shop using an interesting build method outside the hull. We also make a visit to the Lewmar factory in England as we research equipment for our new boat, Distant Shores IV.

  1. Absolutely beautiful! I’m probably as excited to see the finished boat as you guys are.

  2. An attention commanding vid to say the least… me like most folks hopefully looking for that splash day and when you sail off for Greenland… The best part was the Lewmar tour… I have two Lewmar 55's even riggers don't believe I have… the 55's are 4-speed… yes, I said right… a large oval switch at the base of each winch activates the High and Low… Needless to say the Low-low the drum barely moves… My issue I can no longer get springs and pawls for the pair… Anyway great vid and looking for more… Fair Winds…

  3. Another post from you guys! Happy morning here in New Hampshire! The big news is that the Taylor Swift concert got "rained out" but 60 thousand people still showed up to the Gilette Stadium there in Boston. I'll tell ya. On stage for three hours in the Pouring Rain. Sunshine this morning. Just saying. You guys should invite Taylor Swift for a sail. Alright now enough about that. I'll bet ya can't wait till the boat is done. Looks so so so good. So exciting. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this. OOPS no time. I'll get back to this post for lunch. I've got to go buy some tomato plants. I lost my WHOLE Guarden with a HARD FROST last week. Gack. I'll get back. So much fun to catch a post fresh off of your editing table. Thank you so much. (No more coffee for me. ~ Could you tell?). Another busy day. Whew!

  4. It was very nice to meet you and we were very impressed by how DS4 is being built. Thank you again for inviting us to the open day. It really was worth the trip.
We hope to see you again soon!!
    Love, Rob and Jouke.

  5. We REALLY enjoyed getting to see the construction technique and progress on our adopted ship! Thank you so much for the video. You guys may be the only two who enjoyed the walk through more than we did. So very interesting.

  6. Very interesting πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘ and awesome to see the new baby DS4 being created😍πŸ₯°
Enjoy watching your videos and I just wish they are longer and more often πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’― ✌❀☘

  7. When are you guys going to purchase your next sailboat? The day after your 5th sailboat is finished?

  8. The components of the boat are looking great and from the construction of the interior furniture etc., it is starting to look beautiful. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I assume you be showing videos of the equipment (engine(s), wiring, AC, etc. being installed in the hull before all of the furniture and other equipment is installed in the boat. It is all looking first class.

  9. You both rock. I have ordered your DVD’s for years including your build of Two Step which I loved. Thanks for showing me how it is done.

  10. Watching the build videos give a better appreciation on what is involved in a modern sailboat. Looking forward to launching and sea trials.

  11. Hard to believe that there are not dozens of parallel orders in place considering the amount of money floating around out there and the beauty of this design. I am starting to question some of the claims made by other builders, who claim to be multiple years out with orders on the books.

  12. I don’t know why you would go all electric. It makes you vulnerable to just one method of food preparation. Why not have a dual fuel cooking arrangement?

  13. It was so enjoyable to watch this update! But I have to say that I am VERY ready for Distant Shores IIII to be ready to splash! : – ) Will that be in mid summer, or next fall? The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. Smiles times 2!

  14. I really don't know how U Tube works but there's my "off topic" comment below and now it's Monday morning. I just know that you've gotten lots and lots of comments since yesterday. Here you are and now I've got "half a post" to check out this morning. What a boat. Wow! You guys are building the BEST Boat ever. Absolutely no doubt about it. Oh yea…. I tried to replicate the lost garden but couldn't find the Romano Tomato's and missed the small cherry tomato's. I'll try again today. Oops (off topic again.) Best wishes. I have been thinking about that guy in Maine who won the Billion Dollar lottery ticket. ~~~ Maybe then. Who knows. I can't wait to see this in the water. Wow! ✨🌸✨

  15. We love our Lewmar gear. Highly rated equipment built by time served professionals. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

  16. You two are legends, way ahead of the sailing curve. Super excited for your new boat, fair winds!

  17. Aside from allowing parallel builds of the hull and interior, I expect this format of preassembly of the interior will save some overall time despite the fact it needs to be broken down and moved into the hull later. Does anyone have a percentage of overall time (man hours) saved?

  18. A very sensible way to cosnstruct the interior. I hope the services are easily accessible once the interior goes in, long term ease of access and maintenance is so important on a long range liveaboard cruiser. Good to see Lewmar highlighted too, I really like companies who retain employees for decades and continually improve their design, technology and processes.

  19. I'm sure you've answered this question before, so my apologie. However, why did you choose an aluminum boat over other materials? She's a great looking ship kudos.

  20. We thank you both for sharing and can't wait for the completion of the 49. A huge shout out to Lewmar for the factory tour. Splendid!
