Being the home of what used to be Japan’s first airfield, Tokorozawa can be considered the cradle of Japanese aviation. While the airfield does not exist anymore, the place is now home to Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park and Tokorozawa Aviation Museum. In this video, I show you what both of those are like.

Located less than an hour from central Tokyo and easily accessible by train, the Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park and museum are a great place to visit on a day trip.

The park has a lot of green spaces, as well as playsets, basketball courts, and other facilities, and so it’s a great place to visit not only for aircraft enthusiasts but also for families and so on.

Similarly, the museum is a place worth visiting if you like aircraft, but also if you are just looking to escape the bustle of Tokyo and learn something new. Some of the aircraft you will be able to see on your visit include a NAMC YS-11, a Curtiss C-46, and a North American T-6.

Inside the museum, there are not only the actual aircraft, but also many interactive exhibits teaching the basics of flight as well as the history of aviation, and so it’s a place that children will enjoy a lot too.

While most of the descriptions and other things are only in Japanese, some of them are bilingual. Regardless of that, though, you will have a great time no matter if you speak Japanese or not.
