It’s 2018 and Charly and Victor are celebrating by having some traditional Japanese Osechi just for the new year!

In today’s video, we will go over some of the meanings behind some of the most popular items in an Osechi meal. This is typically a meal eaten with family for the new year’s season and can be spread out for a couple days. The reason for this is that most shops traditionally closed up until the 4th of January in order to have a break in the new year. This is another reason why most of the food you can find in an Osechi is cold instead of heated up.

We make a reservation for our Osechi from a department store called Takashimaya. Our Osechi was around ¥20,000 and this was a fancy one at that. Reservations are made towards the end of the year and you receive the osechi generally at the end of December.
